I was assuming that the distance units used by the game are measured using "character steps" when walking. I'm based on the fact that when you go towards a marker, the distance indicator decreases by one unit with each step you take. That's why I don't understand why that 0.046 is used... My real problem is that my rifle damage goes from 44 to 9 while literally 20 steps from the target. (or 36 mts, 116 ft or 2480 game units according to your mod). My sniper rifle has a range of 197 "something". My conclusion is that either I am stupid or the numbers in this game are a mess that It's not even understood by those who wrote the code.
@GustavoLesama The listed Weapon Range in the game on your weapon is in Feet and is the following: 1) The Max Range setting for your weapon barrel OMOD *12 + 11. That Max Range setting is the farthest distance you can shoot before you have to apply the Out of Range Damage Multiplier. 2) The Min Range setting for your weapon barrel OMOD *12+11 is the distance where you will start to see your first dropoff in damage from the listed base damage. 3) The distance between the Min Range and Max Range settings is where you will see continual damage dropoffs until you reach the Max Range distance, then #4 applies. 4) The Out of Range Damage Multiplier is a stock damage you get when you shoot and hit a target past the Max Range setting distance. Usually 50% of the base damage.
You can verify all of this in the game with your favorite mod and FO4Edit. Just get the Min and Max Range values from the Barrel OMOD you are using and plug them into the equation above. Just need this mod and a mod called Floating Damage - which will show you how much damage you do with each hit with a floating sprite. Put a Raider in a box, step back, when you reach the Min Range distance you should not do full damage. Move 1 foot closer and you will.
I don’t think I’ll make a binoculars but you can attach a scope to the Distance Measurer Pistol. Just make sure you don’t remove it from your inventory by using the holotape otherwise your scope will be lost. Put it in the workbench instead.
This will work with Pre-War Binoculars. In fact I prefer the rangefinder functionality over the cheaty Recon module. Pair it with Fine Zoom, which gives a customizeable min and max zoom factor and you got pretty much the perfect set of binocs.
Only issue with it is you still draw aggro when using it anywhere near live targets.
endoooorsed when the timer aloows me too this is awesome...
PS: by 'game units' is this a measurement i could use to check if i am far away enoough from another settlement;s boundairies befor i PLINK a workbench down and try to make a settlement?
How far away should i be from a bondary ? :( thanks for this tool

Im curious about the ingame scaling but i have not found a decent reference so far.
Please tell me how did you manage to convert game units to anything else?

any chance to measure a distance using binoculars or sniper scope? that would be a great!
