I agree that there are a great many "oddities" to a game set 200 years after a nuclear war.  However, this mod is intriguing, especially if you use "smokable cigs and cigars" mod.    Doubling the amount of sneak damage, plus making them super rare would mean my character would have to hoard them.     Also, this mod would work well with those that remove almost all the bobby pins and stimpaks.

Now, you have the wheels spinning and perhaps a tobacco plant mod should be built.     Now the Sole Survivor could re-establish "Lucky Strike" as the dominate brand in the commonwealth.

Wow you beat me to it!

Yes I would love a tobacco plant! Maybe a mutated one like the Simpsons had. Tomacco!!!! Can't let the Brahmins eat that or they will get addicted and hunt you down for yours haha! I wonder if anyone here remembers that! It was a great episode. I think the ingredients were tobacco seeds, tomato seeds, jelly beans and Plutonium. Some random sh*t like that. Homer just dumped all the seeds together, then added the plutonium "to give mother nature a helping hand" lmao! That could only be done in the Simpsons or Fallout Universes. Point Lookout had a similar Moonshine recipe with Fission Batteries. This would be hilarious to add to FO4.

have you consider the robots, heavy gatling automated machine guns? Where are the parts being made, whom is transporting them to the commonwealth.
Part of the answer is Pittsburg is still producing steel. What other areas, places still producing parts etc. The same with cotton, leather, textiles - who makes them? Bethesda seems to want to end the series with FO4 to destroy the commonwealth. They are not interested in rebuilding the world as seen with NukaCola DLC. Even fallout 76 is bad. so yea I would like to see mods that expand, explain, provide parts, etc for rebuilding. BTW NC would still be growing tobacco.

Also how would 200+ year old cigarettes still be in any way smokeable? Unopened packs have a shelf life of maybe a couple of years.

Well the frozen food is expired too, but you eat what you can find. Same with the cigs I guess. The preserved ones, I have no idea how they were preserved unless they were frozen in that box with the sole survivor haha!

Yeah. Realistically most consumable things would have not just expired, but completely decomposed over a couple of centuries, unless they were sterilised of all anaerobic bacteria and stored in a heatless vacuum or something. But you know, it's Fallout.

SteveMRE on Youtube has smoked cigarettes from the Boer War, around 120 years ago. The containers were still sealed and not corroded, so no humidity or air was able to get inside. He noted they tasted and smelled much better than modern cigarettes. They were also quite strong in terms of the nicotine buzz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiUgyJdZYsg

It really depends on the packaging. Even the old US military ration smokes if well packaged will last several decades.

Tobacco is the least of our problems; how about blood packs which have been sitting around un-refrigerated for 210 years?!! Urrk!

Realistic pre-war blood bag mod: you use one and instantly die of septic shock.

I'm torn on this, because most people are ded. There would be quite a lot of cigarettes left and it would take a long time to smoke em all. Also the following generations wouldn't be as addicted to them as the generation when the bombs dropped.

I always wondered why there were any left too! They would've smoked them up and then lost their minds, then detoxed. That being said, a mutated tobacco plant might be a nice cash crop. Heck, we can make other drugs, so why not haha! Wasteland Cigars. They would have to be more radioactive than cigarettes are now though.

So I just read the comments below, it looks like someone beat me to the tabacco plant idea. Glad I'm not the only one who had this idea.

In principle, of course, you're right. But I think in such a stripped down world as in FO4, people tend to smoke more rather than less. And have found ways to get new smokes.

Maybe you can implement (after your great ammo plant mod :) ) a tobacco plant, then you would only need the old pre-war money paper mod for cigarette papers (which would then finally have a use besides posters for the workshop) and every commonwealth resident could roll cigarettes from now on. Or tobacco and papers are available in the Leveled lists of NPCs and Vendors.

That would be very immersive! :)

edit: or maybe people smoke other plants nowadays like hub flowers. ;)
