Found the Mk2s in the Institute, but I can't seem to find the Mk3s? Also I found a note that said the Mk3s were better then the 2s, but the description here says the opposite, just a typo or am I missing something?
Also any pointers on were the legendary is hidden?
I found a note where the MK2's are that indicates Synth Retention took the keys for the Prototype. Checked SRB and there is a new terminal there written by the person who took the keys. On the shelf to the right of that terninal there is some items on the shelf obscuring the key. The Managers Key unlocks the cupboard where the MK2's are but when I unlocked it with the key, it was empty. It could have been because I lockpicked that cupboard earlier so it didn't trigger properly.
Edit: I'm uninstalling the mod and reinstalling to see if that will fix the issue. Edit 2: Doing it properly and the cabinet is still empty when unlocked with the key.
I too can't find the legendary weapon in the container it's supposed to be in. I started a brand new game, same mod list, console command-ed myself into the Institute after exiting the vault, and the box was empty. Going through fo4edit, I found that the legendary institute rifle added by this mod is supposed to be called the "For Science!" institute weapon. The form id is XX004c52; adding it to the player's inventory adds the weapon, but it doesn't seem to have a legendary effect when added in this way. Interesting note, the first time I add it via console it will give me a "standard" For Science! rifle, while subsequent uses of the command seem to randomize the attachments. Make of this what you will. Additionally in the "FormID List section of fo4edit, there is an entry titled "IWOCustomItemModsLegendary" under the formID XX004c54; there is also an entry for "IWOLegendaryList" under formID xx004c55. I am unable to figure out what these mean. I advise you to just console command in the rifle, console command in an effect you want it to have, then modify it to your heart's content. Good luck.
Ive tried installing this via mm and also manually and it still doesnt work, rifle and pistol are both below 20 dmg, any ideas? shame because i like the scaled nature of the mod, the other mods overpower it too much
Check your lore. It is not that the institute weapons are that bad it is simply that they were not designed for human use. Give one to a mid to high level synth and he will most certainly waste your ass.
That actually doesn't make any sense. The simple, easily verifiable truth is that if you pick up this thing, and shoot someone with it, it invariably does ping damage only. The average damage of the weapon is less than a comparable laser pistol. It doesn't matter if the synths are programmed to pull the trigger fast, you could do the same with rapid mouse clicks. But shot-per-shot, their weapons are useless.
I recall somewhere the in-lore explanation is that the Institute suffers from a lackadaisical approach to research. They keep dropping projects that no longer interest them and do something else. They wanted to see if they could build a functional laser weapon. When they succeeded, they simply dropped the project and moved on to something new. A military organization would have devoted a department to keep researching the tech and improving the weapons. The Institute, however, didn't do that. They had a "good enough" weapon, and just equipped their synths with it. Problem solved. It's why so many of their technologies suffer from "good enough" design, such as their lackluster armor, or substandard guns. They're enough for the task, but nothing exceptional.
The Institute also seems to suffer from a "quantity over quality" problem. They attempt to overrun the PC by overwhelming numbers rather than superior fire power. If they did both at the same time they would be virtually unstoppable.
Wile I do understand that The Institute is mass producing their energy weapons, it seems odd that they have not improved their energy weapon's efficiency and effectiveness in comparison to pre-war energy weapons after 200 years.
When a gunner dies its 18 in game years till their replacement is ready to fight; the Institute just cranks themselves out a new synth in about 18 in game minutes. So unless the average gunner kills over 525,950 synths before he dies the Institute is still coming out ahead.
The point is that it makes zero sense why the Institute arms their entire disposable army with such low-grade weapons, mediocre energy-based pistols and rifles and not a single ballistic or explosive weapon. Synths don't carry grenades either, not even a shitty Molotov Cocktail; it's like Skynet taking over the world with an army of T-800 all armed with BB guns. And the game expects me to believe Synths can wipe out an entire Gunner base and never bother to carry back to the Institute all the heavy ordnance s*** those guys carry with them? And if they do, where do the Assault Rifles, high-end Lasers, Missile Launchers, Plasma weapons, etc go to? Do they melt it all just to make more crappy Institute Lasers?
The reason the institute weapons are so weak is a subtle sign that they are full of hot air. Their big scheme to conquer the commonwealth is to fill the place with super mutants to kill all topside inhabitants after erasing all signs of their existence.
I love Institute lasers, but yeah, the damage output of these weapons is shit. There isn't even a unique Legendary version anywhere except Virgil's Rifle, not even inside the Institute, whereas in The Commonwealth you get like seven unique regular laser guns, WTF.

But I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.
