Dunno if anyone else had this issue but I have been trying to load FO4 with about 70 mods for the past three days and have only gotten a black screen after the loading menu. Tried all the tips and tricks I could find (nexus, steam, forums). Finally I decided to get rid of every mod and load them in separately. And it seems MCM Booster was the only problematic mod I had. So right now I'm just not gonna use it. Hopefully I learn what the actual issue is. Have a great day everyone!
Running 235 mods and had the same problem, found this little gremlin causing the issue. This new one seems to work: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/88181?tab=description
My booster cache was always full. took 15 mins to open MCM. It was soooo bad. Then I went to Discord on the collective modding server, and found an MCM booster version by 4estGImp (i think) and it has an extra setting: I set that to one inside the game. Also, i have 1200 mods, so I increased chunk size to 85000, and number of caches to 65 (0 to 64) Worked. Buttery smooth MCM
Unfortunately this mod collides with another mod in changing the file :
Interface\MainMenu.swf (different sizes)
which is pretty much essential to anyone using a downgraded version of the game (v1101630).
Could this be please be looked into in the future and fixed, if time allows ? Thank you for your consideration, and sharing this mod with us in the first place.
Backported Archive2 Support System is not incompatible. Let MCM Booster overwrite BASS, it's 100% fine.
The reason for all this is the following: Bethesda updated the MainMenu.swf in the NG update. This one file makes both the NG version and the Last Gen version Crash to Desktop if it doesn't match the game version.
Therefore, BASS includes the old MainMenu.swf (in vanilla form) just to allow the Downgraded game to work.
MCM Booster mods this very file, MainMenu.swf. So letting it overwrite the BASS copy is exactly the intention of MCM Booster.
Unfortunately, Because MCM Booster is coded into the old MainMenu.swf and so far I nor anyone else can figure out how to copy the Booster code into the NG version of MainMenu.swf, if you use MCM Booster in the NG game, it will CTD. Because the old .swf is just incompatible with the new game.
Thank you for this info. So that is why my MCM menu suddenly take 10 second to open now. I move MCM Booster below BASS in MO2 load order and it worked now.
@HDManiac Using Vortex, you go to the Mods tab, go to Manage Rules, search for MCM Booster, and it should show conflict with BackwardArchive2 (or maybe other mod that changes the MainMenu.swf), set the rule for MCM Booster to go AFTER the conflicting Mod. That way, Vortex will override the MainMenu.swf with the MCM Booster one.
For anyone having crashes on startup, make sure you installed the compatible version for your game, try this version that works with the steam game: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/88181
This mod changed my MCM time from seconds or even instant to minutes. No joke.
Not sure what I did wrong.
OKAY: I see what this mod does now. It moves the MCM loading at the start of running the game. So you now have to wait a minute to launch the game if you were waiting a minute for the MCM menu to open. Removing this mod makes the game launch instantly.
If you are having problems with the load time at the start happening everytime, use the tweak in this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/84735?tab=description
That fixed it for me. No need to install it the mod, just edit the lines in this mod's ini files: MCM\Settings\ZZ_MCMBooster.ini MCM\Config\Settings.ini
The line is: iBoosterCacheMaxChunks = 30
Change 30 to 45 in both files, and you should be okay. iBoosterCacheMaxChunks = 45
