    Hey.  Author of the original Start Me Up here.

    Just want to say thank you for doing this.  I loved the project, but it was super ambitious for my skill level at the time (my first mod) and I'm so happy that someone with more skill at modding could make an updated and improved version.

    You're doing great work here. Thank you!  I edited the original mod's page to provide a big link to this mod.

    Common Problems and Incompatibilities



    • Killable Children is not compatible with Start Me Up, Use Immersive Killable Children with Size Fix or Mortal Youths.
    • Disable True Damage at the start. Only enable them after you're already loaded into Commonwealth. True Damage will cause Infinite Loading Screen when enabled before character creation but otherwise it is compatible.

    • Wait a few minutes in the bathroom before you walk out if you have a lot of mods.
    • Horizon Patch is not compatible with version 7.0+ and is now removed. I will not make them again, but if you want to make a patch. DM me and I'll help you with how to make them.
    • Mod Organizer 2 is recommended as the mod manager to be used with Start me Up. Start Me Up is very sensitive to load order and it's much easier to arrange load order with MO2 than Vortex.
    • You cannot talk to Nick Valentine and start Reunions if you haven't listened to the holotape from Vault 111. This is not a bug, it's a quest.

    Baka Framework, SPID, and MAIM is now perfectly compatible with Start Me Up Redux since the Baka Framework update 1.9.0, but True Damage will cause Infinite Loading Screen if enabled

    Not compatible with Next Gen Update - I'll update it when more mods get updated for Next Gen, I want mod ecosystem to become more stable first. but the good news is that Reunion quest fix is coming

    Further focus on bug fixes will be

    - Various issues during Reunion and Dangerous Mind.
    - Ending slides does not change for non-vanilla characters.
    - Copies of player character appearing in Dangerous Mind in alternate start. Instead of default Nate/Nora.

    These will take a while since there's a lot of scripting edit involved and I'm budy.

    What I want to update
    - Redo Codsworth dialogues, new affinity conversation for alternate start characters

    Non-Start Me Up but related dialogue mods

    - Post-Blind Betrayal Danse dialogue mods

    For anyone getting stuck in infinite black screen even without the ill-advised mods here, try starting with "Just the clothes on my back".

      I'll pin this, because it works for me too. I managed to make Horizon functional with SMU Redux by selecting 'Just the clothes on my back'

    It'll take a while until the update is up, I want F4SE and other mods that required F4SE to get updated first. And There seem to be actual patch coming soon anyway.

    Downgrade your game and use older version of UFO4P for now,

      I can't update the next gen patch without many of my mods breaking, that's why. and I'm too busy to redo my modlist for temporary patching. So when the major mods are pulling out their updates, I'll follow through

    I don’t why i keep crashing whenevr i choose to be at vault 111 when doing an alternate start i don’t even that many mods i just setup midnight ridethis is the crash log

    hey i got my game rolled back and all of the mods i have worked as well as start me up but i can't find the ncr ranger start i have the armor do i need patch or sumthing

      I removed NCR Ranger selection because the mod is now officially ported to Xbox and that there have been multiple NCR armor mods now since 2017 that I don't want to support all of them  - which made it more difficult when it comes to mod dependencies. I decided to Start Me Up Redux should be a standalone mod without other mod dependencies beyond UFO4P.

      Every start me use vanilla+ dlc equipments

      This is NOT an erase for New Vegas however, I love New Vegas but this is a compromise i had to make to make the mod feel streamlined and standalone.

    Hey guys,

    If anyone is stuck on the "Getting a clue" quest when speaking to Valentine and not getting a proper dialogue. 
    Using a console command such as 'setstage MQ105 30/40' might not help as you won't still get a required dialogue line.
    A bit of an issue or a bit of a harmless depravity if you like, huh.

    So, what helped me was:
     - Use an older save before proceeding with the "Getting a clue" quest and getting to the Nick's agency.
       Not required, I believe, but worked perfectly for me.
     - Go to Vault 111, find a vault dweller, grab/listen to a holotape.
     - Then proceed (fast travel) to Diamond City and continue with the quest.
       You should get a proper dialogue with Nick and go from there.
       Also the 'Rumour of the Vault' quest will be completed.
     
    You might get a few issues with getting to the Vault.
    1) Vault is not opening. 
       In this case try to:
           - Use the console command TCL' to go through the door(s) and explore the vault if you want, or
           - Use the console commands 'set SMU_CanTalkToNick' to 1 and 'completequest SMUQuest' which will basically skip over the "Rumor of a Vault" quest. 
       Once inside a Vault find a holotape and listen to it.

    2) No problems with getting to the Vault, but no dweller and a holotape inside (my case).
       Or you just do not want to go there.   
       Use these console commands to spawn a dweller and get a holotape.
       - type 'help dweller 0' 
         This will give you some records. 
         Find two vault dweller records and note one of the ids.
         In my case I've got D5021E7E (male) and D5021E7F (female)
       - type 'player.placeatme D5021E7E/D5021E7F' (use one of the ids)
       - Once NPC is there - get a holotape and listen to it.
         Well, to get it you could try to pickpocket or ... Up to you.
       - you can also disable a dweller once you listened to a holotape.

    Btw, I have an alternate start redux mod (might  be the same for  the older version - 18946) and over 500 mods installed, including Depravity, OaR, heavily modified Diamond City, etc.
    The above still worked for me.

      I'd still not recommend people to use Depravity, Outcast and Remnants, Project Valkyrie even if there's a 'workaround' because later in the games there are going to be a lot more quest editings that may make them further incompatible.

      There's a risk of breaking your game along the way, just to let you know

      Thanks for the recommendation.
      Yeah, I know those ones are bringing a lot of edits leading to the unpredictable consequences.
      Still, it's a little bit too late to exclude all those mods from my current game run.
      It's easier to make another modded version without 'risky' mods.
      We'll see how it goes.

    Hi! I reverted my game to 1.10.163, but I have ran the game with just StartMeUpRedux and UFO4P and it almost immediately ctds. I'm also using MO2. I would appreciate any help.

    Seems to completely brick my game as long as I have it active; can't get out of the vault, finish Piper's interview, or rescue Valentine. Don't have any story/speech related mods and have already reinstalled, and have listened to the holotape. 

    Anyone else experiencing something like this?

    does this add alot of player dialogue? i use a japanese voice mod, so anytime a mod adds voice lines to the player character my immersion gets ruined for a sec. not a big deal just curious. currently i use "Another Life"

    but it's mainly just to test my mods. because most the perks and options it "adds" don't work, so it's basically just a "skip intro & pick spawn" mod more than an true Alternate Start.

      Yes, it does add a lot of player dialogue enough that it'll be immersion breaking if you use other voice mods.

      Perhaps you can try using SKK fast start for testing instead.

    Is there an option to also start normally? Just curious. I like to go between characters so one is an alt start and another I was hoping to follow the regular story. But maybe I just need to turn it off and on before starting then

    EDIT: I figured it out and it was really simple, I had to go to Plugins in the mod manager and enable them, feels like this was probably a silly issue to have, but i wanted to leave this here in case someone else has the same problem.

    Looking for some advice, im very new to modding and i just cant get this one to work, I know about the update that broke a bunch of mods and I believe I am now running the older version of the game that should be compatible with this mod (i technically dont know how to verify i am however i followed the instructions online to do so, and once i did my other mods started working). 

    I cant get this mod to work at all, it just dosent prompt me to do an alternate start, ive only got 6 other mods running, none of which should conflict with this, and i waited 2 minutes in the bathroom before leaving. I even tried to run the mod entirely by itself alongside the fallout community patch and it didnt work either, does anyone have any advice.

      I really want to! That's a plan after I did SS2 patch, but sadly I'm very busy - perhaps it might take years, or else someone else has to take it over after me. I've becoming a bit of TinyManticore myself and my real life job has been taking a lot of my time

      I'm curious as to what the issue is with AR2? I'm playing through it right now and haven't encountered any issues yet other than the good old silent propellers on the Vertibird issue that used to plague every alternate start mod before this one. I hope that's the only issue...

      the silent vertibird issue is weird, because in a normal game without American RIsing installed, it works completely fine. that might due to how AR2 might be setting something up that's related to the start of the game.

      Some dialogues will mention about your character being prewar I think

      how di you get this to work with  America Rising 2. I am unable to leave the vault, and it is not the vault door not opening. it is like the original vault 111 is no longer in the commonwealth.
