Firstly let me say that I'm not a real modder and this is my first mod, so please be gentle as there are surely loads of things I could improve. Consider holding off using these mods unless you're confident with testing something a bit raw.

Kettles presents alternative water boiling gameplay for FROST.

The default FO4 survival, built on by FROST, involved finding glass bottles to gather water in. This bothered me because the world is full of buckets, reusable plastic bottles, etc.
Kettles shifts the scarcity challenge away from finding containers towards finding a way to boil the water

You can freely create lightweight bottles at a Cooking Station - no more hunting.
However, you now require both fuel and something to boil the water in: a kettle, pan, coffee pot etc.

In FROST the conversion ratio was 3:1 Dirty water to Boiled. In Kettles you get a different ratio depending on the utensil.
  • The kettle provides the best water ratio. 1:1
  • The coffee pot provides the most efficient fuel ratio provided you have enough water. 3:2 water for 1 fuel
  • Pans are ok, ideally you want a lid. About 2:1
  • Buckets and rusty old pans are the worst. 3:1

Rusted variants are consumed on use, roleplay-wise we assume that they are so damaged and leaky that they are only good for one last use.
Pristine variants last forever and unlock advanced fuel options! These include: Blowtorch + Oil (rusty blowtorch is consumed), Bunsen burner + Flamer fuel, Hotplate + Fusion Cell.

Speaking of fuel, Wood is still the primary source but it is more scarce in some ways. I have nerfed pencils and some other items that gave wood. I have also increased the weight of wood to dis-incentivise carrying large amounts of it around.

Instead you may break down a variety of burnable miscelaneous objects to create 'Fuel Scraps.' (UTILITY section of the cookbench)
Three 'Fuel Scraps' can be combined to create a Wood which you can then use for cooking.
The misc items that you can use include: Books, newspapers, pencils, folders, pillows, teddies, Jangles and most effectively Turpentine.

Roleplay-wise please assume that the giant soup filled cook-pot at some Cooking Stations is too contaminated to use. This also goes for the various wooden crates etc that look burnable, they're all rotten ;)

If decide to test this mod please give me feedback. I still want to add some more recipes and tweak fuel costs. I've only been testing if for a few hours so I don't have a long-term picture yet. Ultimately I don't think there's a huge shift in difficulty but I do find myself paying a bit more attention to the clutter in the game, it feels less like pointless window-dressing now.

There is also a patch for RedMetalShield's Survival Kit mod so you can boil your water anywhere.
I highly recommend this mod if you're not using it already.

Next, I offer a patch for Fallout 2287 - Nuclear Winter which applies the water freezing mechanic to FROSTs boiled water.
No more cheaty water for you!
Kettles is not required for this patch.
Thanks to Undernier for telling me how to do this. Please check out their other FROST stuff such as Frost - Nuclear Winter - extended at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Finally, there is a patch for RedMetalShield's Survival Kit and Nuclear Winter so you can melt stuff anywhere.
Again, Kettles not required, but the above patch is.
