Is it safe to switch from the original version to this mid playthrough?

Nope. Compacted ESLs have new Form IDs. To the game, it's a new mod.

      Why is it not safe?

Because you'll corrupt your saved game file. Maybe not right away, but eventually you'll crash and burn. You dun want to mess around with the form ids.

This mod and I'm assuming the original mod too do not have their own Form IDs because they only modify already existing vanilla records.

The game will look for the old plugin but it does not matter because whatever changes that old plugin made is still applied by this new plugin.

Oh god, finally.  No more "oh, you fell from 3/10s of an inch too high.  Now everyone's arbitrarily upset".  Now if only we could separate the interact/grab function from the exit power armor function (god, but Bethesda is full of morons)...

At least grabbing things doesn't make everyone including animals, Try to murder you for picking up a cucumber in the Imperial City Market to inspect it before picking to buy it or not to buy it

Reminds me of when I accidentally aggro'd a bunch of children of atom when jumping down from the mountain to meet them

May I suggest that you re-name the file to, say, "No Aggro Impact Landing - ESL".

Installing this in Vortex gives me two mods with the same name, version number and author.

Vortex allows you to change the ESP version to "Marked as Light" on the Plugins tab.  Amazing how once I discovered that I had 120 fewer ESPs.

But this doesn't help me distinguish between the two mods on the Mods page.

Many thanks, both for the original ESL file, and for the re-name. This is now added to my default mod list.

Esp files can actually be made into "pseudo esls" by compacting their FormIDs and then setting the ESL flag in the file header in xEdit. That way, they're sorted like normal esp files but behave like esls.

You can always just rename ".esl" to ".esp" if you want flexible load order. It's still a light plugin regardless.

Thanks, handy for when your load order is almost running over.
