I finally updated the description. It's not flashy, but it now includes a quick installation "guide" as well as a few other bits of info that might be good to know, especially if you're new to ReShade.

Thank you for the 20 endorsements! I know that's not many, but for a ReShade preset this late in the game, I feel it's doing quite well. :)

This is a nice and simple Reshade that works well with ECC and Vivid Weathers.

    Superb!

I replaced my own reshade that I was using for years with yours and damn what a huge difference. Very nice natural looking effect, only thing I added was a touch of vibrance.

    Thanks

Thanks! I'm glad it worked out well for you.

For my own curiosity, any chance you could share a screenshot or two using your own "touch of vibrance"? I have very little interest in adding to or changing SimpleShade (to avoid making it into something no longer simple), but I've been open-minded to what a version 2 might look like.

Edit: Also, have you enabled the Film Grain at all? I rather like it, and I'm curious if others do as well.

Not to be mean or anything, but I don't think having crushed blacks is enhancing the visuals in any way.

That has to do with your monitor, then. As with any ReShade, mileage varies. This only operates under the idea that black should be, in fact, black, while white should be white. I felt default Fallout 4 was a bit hazy in both contrast and sharpness, so I changed that. As a byproduct, DPX helped make color pop a bit more, too, without overdoing it.

No. Look at the screenshots you took in Sanctuary and Diamond City there is very noticeable clipping. You can use the Levels shader to show how much and where it's clipping. Also, I don't get why you would even use Levels when it just destroys detail and isn't very useful for anybody that has a normal PC monitor capable of the 0-255 range.

I only adjusted the black level up by 2. It's very minimally boosted compared to the white level. I've gone back and forth between all of these screenshots (and in-game) many times, the only time it really makes things dark enough to obscure visuals at all is when it would make sense in real life, as intense shadows do just that. However, looking at Diamond City, I see no details lost at all; in fact, I see greater detail thanks to LumaSharpen.

And I've adjusted dozens of wallpapers using Levels because artists have different tastes; Bethesda was no different. Their default visuals are a bit washed out, and I like to see things pop. In any case, thanks for sharing your opinion.

Edit: Does your monitor support HDR? If so, maybe that's why we're seeing different things?

What I wanted to point out in my first post was that it seems in your screenshots that detail is pretty much destroyed in dark areas. This is not the case in my game, but I'm using vanilla weather and not Vivid. Still, there is heavy clipping in bright areas like the sky if you look at my screenshot and no I don't have a HDR monitor.

At the end of the day, I do appreciate your feedback. I don't mean to be defensive, I just have to remember that I calibrated SimpleShade to work for me personally. Now it's out there for everyone. While that may have been my intent for a while now, this is also my first time actually sharing it, and therefore I have to be very willing to accept and understand why it may not work as I intended for others.

I also have to accept that it may or may not be my issue to solve. It may very well come down to the fact that it will work for some, while not working for others. If nothing else, I can only hope that it might serve as a base for newer users -- or even veterans -- to come up with a performance-friendly preset of their own.

If nothing else, thanks for giving it a shot. :)

Okay, I keep seeing people mention 'ReShade presets' in their stuff but they never list it as a requirement and I have no idea what it is. Can someone please explain what it is? Everyone seems to expect everyone else to know what it is, but I genuinely haven't the foggiest idea and the lack of links is extremely frustrating because just trying to look up reshade gets me nothing but presets.

EDIT:: Sorry I'm posting this here, but I've been playing the game for just over two months and this is basically the only thing I've had this specific issue with, and I'm hoping that you have an idea of what it is. Thank you for your patience.

They're just configuration files for ReShade that you usually drop in the root folder of a game right before you manage that game's ReShade installation. Then you install the effects from your presets, and select one from the drop-down ReShade menu in-game.

I use ENB wherever possible, but ReShade is great for games that don't have it, and is arguably much more stable for some users.

Okay, since you seem to have completely missed the point of the post:
      WHAT
      IS
      RESHADE
I do not know what ReShade IS

Stop acting like I know what you're talking about, and explain what Reshade itself is, please
This is exactly what I was complaining about, of everyone acting like everyone else knows what the hecc ReShade is already, but I have been modding for only a month, and do not know all these things yet.

Reshade is, like ENB, programs that add more graphic modifications for games, or basically just helps make your game look more prettier than what you can achieve with just the in-game graphic settings(though can potentially tank your performance more too). Most of everything that involve these two on here are presets only, because hosting all the main files required from these programs on Nexus are not allowed by both their creators.

I'll blame myself on this one, since it's something I might have at least touched on in the description if I hadn't been drinking, but JDG pretty much covered it.

Personally, I much prefer ReShade for Fallout 4, as ENB doesn't have much to offer in the way of improvements and ReShade is much easier to tweak; however, ENB is practically a requirement for Skyrim at this point given how drastically it improves Skyrim's lighting.

PS: I just read my "final note" in my description... dear God, what? Rumple Minze is not my friend.

Thank you thank you thank you for providing links, JDG. The explanation helps out a lot, too. I wish there was a 'list of the most ubiquitous mods for Fallout 4' or something to reference the stuff 'everybody knows already'. thank you thank you again.
