Actually this is a very good fun mod and one that will go great with Vietnam era inspired mods such as ones that bring GI uniforms and minutemen conversion as well as radio mods that turn radio freedom into a Vietnam era inspired radio station. Realism element, yes realism, Music has a very long history in warfare from ancient drum beats and chanting and of course hitting the back of your shield with the pommel of your sword to more modern use of heavy metal by the US military as part of psychological warfare.
OK Richard Wagner is a very controversial fellow especially given the use of his music by Nazi Germany in WW2 but despite his somewhat distasteful views (a matter of debate and opinion I'll warrant) he certainly knew how to create a rousing tune and if anything the Ride of the Valkyrie is probably the one he is both best known for and arguably his best piece though some classical purists may argue that point, to the rest of us however it was his one hit wonder that is still great sounding - in the right circumstance - today and probably as close as classical got to heavy metal long before metal was even invented.
So goes very well and you could imagine the BOS or some other faction such as the Gunners or even the Enclave blasting this out from their aerial vehicles for exactly this use though the Enclave in particular would probably play something more classical American while the BOS, well since they no longer hold allegiance to any nation and are basically just stealing controlling and hoarding technology with only a slight moral edge of the Enclave as far as their character is concerned well they may just use it and the Gunner or for that matter Talon company definitely would, as for the NCR maybe?.
I have not tested this mod at that point where the BOS arrives in the Commonwealth, but depending on what soundfiles he replaced probably yes. I just released another vertibird sound replacer mod and if you want to add music to autoplay when taking off and during flight you mix it in with only the vertibird interior sound file so you only hear the music when you are in the vertibird in 1st person view. Otherwise yes, every vertibird in game will play the music when they fly overhead.
I'll try. You will need to get Creation Kit to keep the file size down, otherwise you will be replacing each vertibird sound individually, and that can really make the mod large.
You will also need your music choice (convert to wav) and a prop (helicopter) sound. I extracted one of the prop sounds from the vertibird folder. You can find these sounds by using B.A.E. ( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/78 ) and unpacking the Fallout4-Sounds.ba2 file in the Fallout4 Data folder. The vertibird is in Sound>FX>OBJ>Vertibird, you will need to convert these file to wav before you work on them.
You will need something to convert the sounds from xwm to wav and back, I use ( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9322 ).
Convert the sound files and find the one you want to use.
Next, you will need to create your new sound. I use Audacity ( https://www.audacityteam.org/ ) Open both files in the same instance and loop (copy, paste, copy, paste, etc) the prop sound to match the length of your music. Trim the excess as necessary. Make sure that the music is loud enough to be heard over the prop sound, use Effects>Amplify if needed. Do NOT make the prop sound quieter, just make the music louder if needed. Merge those two (Tracks>Mix>Mix and Render to New Track) and export as a wav and then convert to xwm.
Make a copy of that xwm and create new folders to put it in. Sound>FX>OBJ>Vertibird. Copy that Sound folder to your Fallout4 Data folder and open Creation Kit. Open Fallout4.esm, it will take a minute to load, and there will be a ton of warning messages, dismiss them. In the Object window, type "vertibird" (no quotes) in the Filter box. You will see the right side of the window populate. Look for the lines that have a green box with the number 3 in it. It is a little icon to the left of the line. These are the lines that direct sounds to events (I guess). These lines all have differnt names, so choose which ones you want change. I didnt mess with the ones that dealt with take off or landing, doors closing, etc. Just ones like OBJVertibirdEngineIdle3DLAYERDLPM. When you double click on these, you will see a new window. If there are "Play" "Stop" buttons in the window, you can listen to the original sounds, which are listed just below the buttons. (Everything you do here is non-destructive, the original file remains untouched, so dont worry.) Right click on the original sounds and delete them. Then right click and choose "New", point the dialog to your new xwm file. IT MUST BE IN THE DATA FOLDER! Repeat this process for all sound events you want to.
When you are done, go to File>Save and Push Plugin to PC. Name your mode and save. You are now done with Creation Kit.
Two options now.
1. Keep everything as it is and play. Have fun.
2. Manage this mod with Mod Manager and make the file something you can upload to Nexus. To do this, follow the next steps.
Go to your Data folder and you will see your new mode file (.esp), move that out to wherever you want, make sure you also get rid of your sound file in data. Now take your .esp and your original Sound folder (the one that has the new xwm in it, remember, I told you to COPY it earlier) and rar them together (winrar).
