I have found a bug that results in occasionally being stuck in the crafting window. Not sure if it's something I did wrong directly or if it's an engine thing but for the mean time until I solve it, using the console to teleport to any other location is the easiest way without quitting the game.
Opening the console and using coc sanctuaryext takes you safely out of the menu and places you on the street in sanctuary. Alternatively you can use player.moveto player to be warped to your present location.
For now these are the only ways to get away from the crafting menu as I haven't the slightest idea how to add a crafting preview, and the lack of a crafting preview is what locks the player into that crafting screen with no way out aside from the console
