Still Works! Be sure to read the Readme file. After bat 4 it didnt seem to work for me but i was finally able to assign a new settler to the radio and thats when the Radio Freedom announcer decided that he wants his job back and sat down to do it.
Thx for the mod you absolute legend!!

So I tried this mod and everything worked....was able to reassign the radio guy to the transmitter....clicked on the transmitter and my player said "Everything seems to be working ok". Radio guy when clicked on says he has to get back to his broadcast or something to that effect but there is no radio sounds. None coming from the table top radios in settlements nor my pipboy. Speakers are powered and on but still the radio isn't broadcasting...I went back to the beginning of "Old Guns" and replayed that quest and all works now...think it has something to do with were you kill "Sarge" the robot in the tunnels. Long story short...these Bat file worked yet they didn't work...

Anyone having this problem, this is what fixed it for me:
    setstage 67FF9 400

It forces the radio to start broadcasting even if the dude won't sit down.

Thank you, but this doesn't work for me

    This my solution

    1. Survival Mode You need this "https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12794"

    because need console

    2. After building the cannon,Input [player.setstage AA778 0] Mission can continues.

    This mod is now obsolete.

SO I assigned the radio guy to the transmitter, but he just runs up against it instead of actually, you know, operating the blasted thing. Any clue on how to proceed?

I can't use this. Console commands are a no-go in survival mode.

Didn't work for me. I never got a complaint about power, he just stands around. I ran the bat files, tried assigning to the radio, no good. Assigned someone else to the radio, no good. They all just stand around. No complaining about power, just refuse to sit.

Same deal for me - my game is Steam and fully up to date with patches. No idea. I'm probably going to start disabling mods and see if there's anything going on with those.

ran the bats from a different part of the commonwealth, came into the castle and assigned him to transmitter. He still won't sit at it and operate it.

Tried assigning someone else to it... no dice.

Fixed in fallout 4 patch 1.3 : During "Taking Independence," fixed an issue that would prevent the radio transmitter from powering up, presumably it fixes the guy not sitting down either. Cheers folks

The bug still exists, I couldn't get the guy to stay at the radio during a fresh play through.
