How does it work?
Weapon weight in Vanilla Fallout 4 uses a system of multiplication to calculate the impact of a mod into the final weight of a weapon. However, this creates an inconsistent pattern where a mod can have different weights based on which mods you have already applied to the weapon. A scope, when applied to a simple weapon, weights less when applied to a fully modded weapon. That's just lazy and absurd.
I carefully changed the formula for EVERY piece of modification for weapons in the game, giving them absolute weights instead of multiplicative values. A scope that weights 0.3 pounds now weights the same in every situation.

To generate a weapons weight, the game now calculate the sum of all of its parts, including receivers. Every gun has its base weight set to zero.

For example:

The standard combat rifle weight is calculated by its parts:
Short Barrel - 1.1 lb
Short Stock -  0.75 lb
Standard Magazine - 0.5 lb
Standard Receiver - 4 lb
--------------------------------------------------
Standard Combat Rifle - 5.9 lb

It's simple, consistent and believable.

This method was applied to every weapon that has a real life counterpart, and for those that haven't, I tried to use some sense and calculated these by hand.

Which weapons does this mod changes?
All of them. Guns, melee, heavy weapons, launchers, grenades and mines. oh, and the syringer.

How does it affect gameplay?

  • Most weapons will be much lighter in general, but not all. Most heavy guns like the Broadsider and the Gatling Laser are now HEAVY, but still useful.
  • Much less disparity between modifications weight. Heavier receivers are a little bit heavier, but not that much.
  • More freedom to customize your weapon to your needs without worrying that much about weight.
  • Great for survival mode or carry weight restriction mods.

Plans for the future
  • Update for Nuka World. It is currently NOT included, but are already work in progress as you can see on the screenshots. Update: Far Harbor is now done. DONE!
  • Expand the system to include armor and clothing, as well as Power Armor.
  • A modular plugin revamping the carry weight system from the scratch.

Installation and Use

Simple install using your favorite mod manager. This mod can be installed and uninstalled mid-game, but already spawned weapons won't update their weights automatically.
