What is it?

The next step I wanted to take after my Sharper Synths textures. While there are a handful of new or altered textures out there for synths... none of them were quite what I wanted. I liked the look Bethesda gave them, the style - but I thought it could stand for a bit of an upgrade. So, Synthkind Redefined goes a little further than just a texture replacement! SRD also tweaks and improves on a few other aspects of synths. It provides unique textures for Nick Valentine and DiMa - not just faces, but also bodies. DiMa has been given an all new face texture based on the unused version found in Far Harbor, as well as a matching body texture. The materials for his glass parts have been tweaked to reduce their brightness and emphasize the cracks and damage present.

This mod also includes the Jaw Sync feature from my other mod, called, unsurprisingly, Valentine Jaw Sync. As DiMa's new face textures also expose the inner workings of his head, SRD also extends this feature to him.

Main screenshots taken with an ENB, but I have included a few without, for accurate representation. They are labeled with 'No ENB'.

There is an option in the installer for a Base Game version of the mod, if you do not own Far Harbor.

Tell me about the textures!

Two versions available. Standard download is SD sizes. 512 eyes/mouth, 1k for face and 2k body, with normal/specular maps half those sizes. There is an HD version available as well. 512 mouth(and Gen1 eyes), 1k eyes, 2k faces, and 4k bodies, with normal/specular maps half those sizes. Use one or the other.

Gen1 synths have received the smallest adjustments. A new eye texture, general adjustments for increased definition to their body, and a few minor color tweaks - like their teeth, which have been changed to a more iron/steel tone.

Gen2 synths are the core focus of this mod - They have received new eye and skin textures, built completely from scratch. The eyes feature two variants - a simple style closer to vanilla, or a more elaborate shuttered style, drawing from vintage camera parts. Both eyes also have a new glow map! DiMa gets to benefit from these new eye textures as well - no more muddy, impossible cataract textures - instead, the neon in his eyes has burnt out and the aperture is depicted in a wider position.

Gen2 synths have also received adjustments to their mouth textures, pulling back on the yellow tones present and making the teeth an iron/steel tone.

Clean Gen2 synths, such as those seen in the institute, no longer have the unusual jaundiced tone to their flesh, and the pink cast to the edges of their panels has also been removed. They are now an aged beige plastic - they haven't seen as much action as the worn out synths on the surface, but it's clear they aren't fresh off the assembly line, either.

Worn/Dirty/Damaged Gen2s, like those you might encounter at University Point, have had most of the pigment fade from their plastic. They are scratched, yellowed from exposure to the elements, with dirt ingrained into them.

Nick Valentine has gotten an all new texture, focusing more on wear and tear, as opposed to the dirty of the standard Gen2s. Clean, but bleached and tattered, with more emphasis on the unique scars he bears. He also has coordinating body and hand textures.

DiMa no longer uses Nick's face texture with a bit of spackling - New damage, based on the unused texture in the DLC, and evidence of water damage and degradation, but less specific damage - no scars from fights, for example.

Wait, what's this about Body Textures for Nick?

Nick has unique textures for his body as well - by default this will be visible as the back of his head and his left hand, but I also provide two optional ESPs in the installer.

The Valentine Wardrobe plugin is designed for simple out of the box use and widest compatibility. It allows him to wear any outfits that you (or human npcs) can wear. Because of the way it's implemented, the body textures visible are much simpler - the synth  body panel details are not present.

The NVD Addon is what I personally use and is intended to be used alongside the mod Nick Valentine's Day. It provides optional constructible body parts for him that use a unique texture, instead of the general dirty Gen2 synth skin. These pieces (with the (SRD) suffix) also have subsegment data removed, so parts will no longer be missing depending on what else he has equipped.

The NVD Addon also includes the fixes from my Nick Valentine's Day Mesh Patch.

You can select either of these additional plugins in the FOMOD installer. Or you can skip installing them.

They are not intended for use together. Use either Valentine Wardrobe OR Nick Valentine's Day + the included NVD addon.

You CAN use Nick Valentine's Day on its own with this mod - my patch is not a requirement, BUT there will be a notable visual difference between parts of him.

Both additional plugins are light-flagged (As is the main plugin.)

Compatibility?

NOT Compatible with Fashionable Valentine. However, the Valentine Wardrobe plugin in SRD functions in an extremely similar way.

DiMa's NPC entry IS edited to allow for the changes I have made. If you have anything else that affects him, there may be issues. (I am not aware of any mods that edit him.)

Nick's NPC entry is NOT edited in the base plugin or the NVD Addon. It IS edited in the Valentine Wardrobe addon, and may conflict with other mods.

Nick's RACE entry is edited ONLY in the Valentine Wardrobe addon, and may conflict with other mods.

Nick's specific versions of the Faded Trench Coat and the Worn Fedora are edited in the Valentine Wardrobe addon, and may conflict with other mods. They have been renamed as 'Detective's Faded Trench Coat' and 'Detective's Worn Fedora' to differentiate them from the player version. This may conflict with other mods, like AWKCR and Armorsmith Extended.

Textures/materials/meshes are packed into ba2 archives. If you have loose versions of any of these files, they will overwrite the ones included with this mod.
