About this mod

Like AG Needles Hurt in F:NV, this also adds both a pain sound and damage to Stimpaks, but also other needled items. All without editing their bases.

BACKGROUND
I love Fallout New Vegas, it's my favorite Fallout game. I used to play it with a huge number of mods and made several personal mods for myself. One of the mods I used from the Nexus was AG Needles Hurt, which I sadly can't find anymore.

OVERVIEW
In the same spirit as AG Needles Hurt, where jamming a Stimpak in hurts you, this mod does basically the same: Scripted damage, either by percent or a flat amount, a scripted gendered pain sound which plays every time for whichever needled chems you've selected in the MCM(all by default).

Does this mean Stimpaks heal less? Yes. Yes they do. But it's for MUH IMMERSION so that's how I personally like it.

Basically, jamming a needle randomly into your body will hurt you. You could very well die, so needled chems have a risk associated with them now.
Best of all, it should be 100% compatible with sorting mods, because I never touched the actual chem forms. It also works in Power Armor because it's dialogue, so it'll sound correct.

EXPLANATION
So how does it work? Instead of editing the base items which might impact compatibility with other mods, I went with a quest alias that looks for equipped items. If an item matches, it directly runs a script that either plays a dialogue sound(like how Psycho does) and does damage, or only does damage, depending on which item is matched.

I've also included a condition for the Medic perk, to be checked for, in the MCM. If it's enabled and you have any rank of the Medic perk, needles won't cause damage to you anymore, but you'll still say the Pain dialogue.

Pain Sound:

If the keyword of the item matches the basic Stimpak keyword, MedX Addiction, Calmex Addiction, Overdrive Addiction, or Mysterious Serum Addiction keywords in the base game it will inflict the damage then wait 0.8 seconds and play the gendered pain sound. I've also included the Hardcore mode Antibiotics, Vault 81 Cure, FireBelly, Agile Sludgepak, and Durable Sludgepak.

No Sound:
If the Keyword of the item matches the Fury Addiction, Psycho Addiction, or Daddy-O Addiction keywords, it will not play the sound, only inflict the damage after 0.8 seconds. This is because the game itself already has the player say something when you take those, so I felt it wasn't necessary to have both.

As such, if another mod adds chems, then so long as their needled chems use the right vanilla keywords, this mod will pick those needles up too. And stab you with them.

EXAMPLE
We'll assume you've selected Percentage damage, and set it to 1%.
1: You have 1/163hp, and you use a Stimpak, or other needled chem. You die, because 1% of your health is 1.63hp and this damage gets applied BEFORE the Stimpak heals you.

2: You have 3/163hp, and you use a Stimpak, or other needled chem. You live, because 1% of your health is 1.63hp and this leaves you with 1.37hp remaining before the Stimpak heals you, or other needled chem starts doing its thing.

INSTALLATION

Use your mod manager to install, or you can manually place the MCM folder, StimpaksHurt.esp and StimpaksHurt - Main.b2a in the Data folder of your Fallout 4 installation.

UNINSTALLATION
Make a save where you aren't using any chems. Then use your mod manager to uninstall, or you can manually remove the "MCM/Config/Stimpaks Hurt" folder, the StimpaksHurt.esp and StimpaksHurt - Main.b2a from the Data folder of your Fallout 4 installation.

FUTURE PLANS
Bug fixes, if there are any?
Increase script efficiency, currently working on this atm
Add MCM options people want, assuming I agree with them
Mark as esl, assuming the dialogue files don't break because of that
