I feel like the 12.7 and .223 are pretty redundant ingame. Especially the 12.7. It's literally the same as .50, unless you add something like x99 or x108 on the end of it.
I think the point is that they existed together before, so why not include them. Personally, I'd welcome all varieties of ammo, because running low on one allows me to swap to another, rather than being stuck having run back into town and buy more. And there are perks to help increase the amount of ammo you get, but you'll still often feel like you need more than you have.
I know .223 Remington is just a civilian style of 5.56 NATO. At least this is more streamed down from New Calibers which has every type of ammo that is found in America arms
There really are only 3 basic ammo calibers missing from the game: .22 LR, 9mm and .357 Magnum. Everything else is essentially going to require you to add a very specific weapon to the game to justify adding non-standard ammo to a framework.
Ex. I use the Mark 23 SOCOM, which fires .45 ACP and .45 Super. There would be no point adding .45 Super to a framework unless I thought other .45 ACP weapons would fire it. Pipe Pistols would blow up firing it, and it would make no sense firing premium ammo out of a SMG. This is a very niche caliber - one that I'd use whenever I intended to use it as a sniper pistol for a little extra range and umphh when it hits.
Well I hope they are planning to add guns for it at least... I would love some new calibres but like... 5 or 6 at most not 20 million like the New Calibres mod.
I'm actually using this mod as a master for a personal mod. The other mod relies on a bunch of Creation Club assets, Nexus and Bethesda.net mods, and all of the DLCs. It would be a nightmare of permissions and emails to people retired from modding to upload. Adding receivers and weapons would muck everything up.
Ah yes a replacement for new calibers! Should check out the original mod for some inspiration on calibers to choose. Maybe .300 Blackout, 5.45mm or 22LR next. Good luck with the mod!

- Modify existing weapons to use the new ammunition types
- Add new weapons to use the new ammunition types
Literally in the description.
