About this mod

This is a collection of 450+ audio files (no music). They build a theme that's more modern than vanilla without being too mechanical or futuristic.

Changelogs
MAC:
  • This is a collection of audio files that I've been working on for a couple of months.  The goal is to build a theme of sounds between (old) mechanical and (futuristic) technical that also works with different types of music.

  • Several sounds were modified, not replaced.

  • Some changes are subtle and some are drastically different than the vanilla version.

  • There is no Combat, Explore, Public, etc., music in MAC.

  • Not all of these sounds are exactly the way I'd like them and they may never be just right but I still enjoy working on them so maybe one day it'll be complete.

  • A version with loose files is included in case anyone wants to modify the collection without having to unpack the archive.

  • If there was already a better sound on NEXUS it's not included here.  Things like the flashlight on/off sounds in the Pip-Boy Flashlight https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10840 mod are great so I didn't make new ones.

  • If anyone has a recommendation for a mod with better sounds than mine or an idea for a new sound, let me know.

  • Using headphones is highly recommended.

MAC Details:

  • This is the number of files and the type of things that are changed.  Listing each specific file on the mod page seemed ridiculous but if someone wants that information, let me know and I'll post an article.  These numbers aren't completely accurate because I got tired of updating them as I made changes to the mod.

NOTES:
A little inside baseball about the mod. (I'm old, Google it)

  • Pip-Boy - Changing the static from a crackling noise to an electronic buzz is subtle but makes a difference.  The enter/exit sounds may be a bit too dramatic considering the amount of times I open and close the dang thing.  The other sounds are simple but work well together.

  • Spotlights - These were a real pain and I've modified them countless times.  They are good but not great and I think they need to be louder.

  • Turrets - The targeting sounds are more threatening and less alarm clock.  The idle sounds are a combination of high/low tech machinery with a lower volume.  I really want to change the firing sound for the turrets.

  • VATS - I never knew there was a specific sound for the camera since the vanilla sounds blend together.  When I finally made one, it had a camera iris shutter sound then a click which was annoying so I quickly deleted it.  I made another one and changed the click to a beep - it didn't help - but I kept playing.  The more I played, the more it grew on me and now it's also one of my favorites.

  • UI - The legendary sound effects are unique but fit with the other VATS sounds.  I'm still working on some of the legendary sounds.  Some things like experience are replaced with silence.

  • Weapon Modification Crafting - These are the sounds when you select an option for building or removing a weapon modification, not the "drill press" sound you hear when scrolling through menus on the weapon workbench. I made these for something else but they work pretty well.  Probably need some more tweaking.

  • NPC Hammering - Silencing this sound looks weird when you see an NPC silently banging on a wall so I made a sound that's muffled and lowered the volume.  There are better ones on Nexus.

  • Workbench (Armor and Weapon) - The hammering on the armor bench is still too loud but I like the sewing sound.  The weapon bench sounds are pretty good, I probably won't make any more changes.

  • Scrapping - I never realized how many scrapping sounds are in the game until I started changing them.  I made these just for a change and to be more consistent.  They took a little while to get used too but now I don't notice them as much as the harsh vanilla sounds.

  • Generic Item Pickup - Nothing earth shattering, I just wanted a change.

  • Terminal - Really unnecessary if you use a mod to change the speed.  I set mine so fast it's almost inaudible.

  • Palettes - I like the vanilla palette but it's too unique to work with most combat, explore, dungeon, etc., music replacers.

Compatibility:

  • This is just an audio file replacer so it should be compatible with everything.  If you have a replacer for other sounds and want to keep them then load them after MAC.
