In the folder directory Fallout 4\Data\MCM there should be 2 folders "Config" and "Settings" If you have the same issue I did there will be a third folder named after the mod, move that folder to "Config" for the directory Fallout 4\Data\MCM\Config\SuppressorPenalties
Being able to lower the damage does add realism to compensate for the lack of subsonic type ammo(ammo type dedicated for use with suppressor) that would make the suppressed gunshots even sound close to as quiet as this game and so many others do. In real life a regular suppressed gun without subsonic ammo would make stealth very hard to do so adding a damage penalty to all guns that use a suppressor is good but it would be better if it would lower the damage realistically based on the subsonic impact of that caliber instead of having the same penalty for all calibers. The only more realistic alternative is for someone to make a mod that removes the damage penalty for suppressors but increases their sound to the player and npcs to be more louder.
I'm actually trying to remove the range penalty from suppressors without adding any other penalties. Would this mod work in removing the range penalty? It certainly isn't intended for that but looking at those sliders got me thinking if i could alter the multipliers in a manner that would nullify any potential penalties for suppressors.
Some weapons experts claim that, because how proper suppressors are made on the inside, they actually give the bullet more twirl, propelling it faster out the barrel thus causing more damage. I get your reasoning for give/take gunplay; i just thought you should know in case you didn't :)
Huh, didn't knew that! If you're on PC and have access to the console, you could actually edit the actor values from this mod to increase the gun damage and range, although that would probably make the suppressor even more OP
@simimagination I don't believe "twirl" has anything to do with it. That comes from the rifling in the barrel, aka twist, or twist rate. The suppressor effectively lengthens the barrel allowing the expanding gas from the burning powder to act on the projectile longer and thereby increasing velocity.
However, older, more privative suppressors used rubber "sweeps" to help suppress the sound. in the Fallout universe, perhaps that is all the farther the technology developed. Who knows.
As for me, I won't use this mod, but it is an interesting concept, and seems to be implemented intelligently.
Yeah, this is only in video games to balance out the use of the suppressor. In reality suppressors actually increase a bullet’s velocity and range marginally.
True, but the degree of stealthiness they provide in-game implies the use of not only a suppressor, but also subsonic bullets. Those definitely have less kinetic energy. Adding different ammo types to simulate this would be getting a bit too much in the weeds, so this is a great way to implement it. Many tactical shooters do it the same way.
Modern suppressors don't have a significant impact on bullet velocity, but earlier ones could. I suppose it depends on the weapon you're using, and/or whatever your headcanon is in regards to how advanced suppressors became in the Fallout verse.
Vanilla range is already nerfed. More nerfs for Bethesda's overrated bb guns? Not to mention the suppressors have little if any affect in combat anyway. Nuts

Nice mod.
