My Slavic mother is confused, since this was never a thing on the Balkans.

those carpets overall don't look any bit balkan or slavic at all to me

Seeing those without context of this mod, I would say they were mainly inspired from middle-east, shapes patterns n all

Persian? No, Russians started putting cheap floor rugs on the walls in the 1960s, in those shoddy Soviet-era concrete apartments because of the awful freezing damp therein each winter. Given a lack of central heating in post-apocalyptic Boston, it's a good idea.

They were produced all over USSR and even in DDR at some point, inspired by Persian/Tajik/Afghan carpets, had same use to enhance sound and thermal isolation + to look nice. Some more imagery from their foreign trade catalogue https://humus.livejournal.com/4997934.html

Отличные бетонные дома,строились на века , не то что ваши сборные картонные коробки , ветер дунет они и улетят.

В СССР именно такие ковры висели на стенах почти в каждой квартире, и на полу лежали тоже.
