New update! Or at least it's new as I write this lol.
The gun is completely retextured and reanimated so... yeah! Have fun lol

Also, if you had a problem with this mod's associated interior with falling through the floor and not seeing anything, you were probably using the ESL version of the mod. V3 has been uploaded to fix this issue.

Someone should make this into a replacer for the standard "Assault Rifle"

Why on earth did you not resize the carry handle rearsight to fit over the entirety of the receiver, it looks so goofy and slapped-on, and it wouldn't take you more than maybe thirty minutes of work to size the rearsight correctly to make it look properly like the Service Rifle from NV. Literally why?

Ususuallly not into Weapons mods but this is so good it will never leave my load order.
I like to give the base version to all DC guards, one by one,  via console command so they look more professional

Just came here to leave a small comment, your mods are great and I do appreciate them. Just found the assault rifle by accident in it's related bunker, very neat implementation into the world. Regards!

Ends up looking essentially like a service rifle but with the bolt position of the handmade rifle lol.

Pretty sure this is the case for the service rifle from New Vegas, too. People think it's an AR-15 or M-16, but it isn't. It has no rear charging handle or (as far as we can see) buffer tube.

The service rifle based on a prototype version of the AR-10, with the model modified to fit the animations used by the Light Machine gun, Bozar, Riot shotgun, assault carbine and marksman carbine (e.g. the charging handle location and the addition of forward assist), and the buffer tube is inside the solid stock, like how the original AR-10s and AR-15s weapons were.

The gun looks and feels great. The one thing that bothers me is that i can't remove the sight on the barrel since it literally blocks my sight. Any chance to get an option to remove it?

I really, really want to love this one, but the sights kill it for me. Namely the front site post not being folded when you place any reflex or see-through scope on it. The iron sights aren't terrible, but they too are a bit obscured. I think a either an edit to make the front post fold down or the optics mount to the carry handle would solve this issue with the rifle. Other than that though, I really like and keep it installed just to use for fun every once in awhile. Neeher....pls fix.

Real world the human eye does just fine with fixed front sight posts even when mounting an optic.
The eye just ignores them and prismatic optics due to their distance focus make the FSP visually disappear to the human eye anyway.
But yes, I get what your saying a flat gas block is the best practices nowadays in our universe but service rifles are still widely issed with a fixed FSP.

What caliber does it use? Is it .308 like a real AR-10?

In the game it is 5.56mm like a M4/AR15 (though it looks more like a CAR15 with side charger).

However if you have a rank of Gun nut or two, you ana change the receiver to run 38SPC (most widely available round in the game) making it a real economy gun for a survivalist playthrough.
Or you can upgrade it to .45.
It seems clear to me that the Devs, being California guys and not actual gun guys, are using "45" as their in-universe broad equivalent of 7.62x51/.308 caliber tactical rifles (which is the role the "Combat Rifle" fills in Universe)

And yes you can achange the receiver to .45 (with a couple ranks of gun nut, which also gives  a boost in hit points to the rifle.

    One of the best mods by Neeher, even using his very high standards;

    - It looks very much how a parallel Universe Stoner/Armalite design might have looked which is perfect for FO4 lore..
A side charger was even considered in our universe during the original design process by Eugene Stoner.
There are currently side charging AR15s on the market and while I dont own one (I want to keep the manual of arms identical between my tactical rifles), it is clearly perfectly functional.
-Another feature that I originally did not fully appreciate is how much this rifle can grow with the player's Gun Nut abilities.
While in the beginning it seems barely the equal of the basic Combat Rifle which is great early game, but no one uses late game, the improvements even a Gun Nut rank 2  and 3 can do really explodes its abilities.
The burst fire option is extremly good and like in "real life" makes full auto generally unneccessary.
I find myself even in late game, using this rifle for 90% of my engagements.
    - Plus because you can build it on the bench, I issue it out to a great many of my minutemen troops achieving a degree of standardization that befits the MM...... with a rifle that is also proper given the Minutemen's likely evolution out of the pre-war Massachusetts National Guard.
    - I just finished a Neeher-weapons-and-armors-only playthrough and found myself coming back to this gun again and again during that play.

In summary this may be the best all around balanced weapons mod for FO4 combining realism, lore friendlyness, animation skill(!) and effectiveness.
