I ran into this, and found a workaround. The machine gun one isn't as finicky, but most of the others are. It seems you not only need a flat surface, but height above it as well. I build the concrete block (from one of the DLCs), place it where I want the turret {block 1}. Build another one right on top of it {block 2]. Build one to the side {block 3], then build another block on top of the one that I just did {block 4}. Jump up on block 4, look down on block #2, and build my turret. Then I store blocks 3 and 4 (the one I'm standing on), and use them elsewhere.
Ever play tetris? You know that one piece that looks like a flatted S or lightning bolt? That's the shape you are going for.
This not only makes for a place that the turret will build without issues... but it also elevates the turrets giving them a far better reach.
Any chance of a sniper or lobber turret? I'd love to have a turret I can set up high and have snipe down at long range at enemies and having a turret that could fire up over the walls of my settlements would be super handy.
I can try, no promises i've never tried that before OK I'm pretty sure i can make a grenade launcher/mortar style turret but i don't think it will fire over walls. How much fire rate/damage/blast radius do you want? Do you want any special effects on the explosions?.
A regular old frag grenade launcher with a nice high fire rate but only it bursts with low accuracy would be a great giving it about the blast radius of a regular frag and about the same damage. Another that fires slow but launched a WIDE radius cryo explosion that does little damage but with the cryo effect to slow or freeze it would be murderous. And if you can make one fire a spread of the electric blobs the charging barreled tesla rifle fires but with stun chance attached I think the chaos would be worth have low damage.
Tesla is done it's somewhat like the automatron fireball launcher but much more zappy Mortar is done it goes boom boom I'll make the cryo bomber and video later
Oh okay well I have a mod that already increases the targeting range of enemies so just a slow firing turret with a really REALLY high single shot damage and pinpoint accuracy would work fine. If it is possible to add a bit of gib (bloody mess) chance to the shot as well so it can instant kill sometimes that would just be perfect.
The turrets show up in the menu but no crafting requirements show and no turret preview shows for me. I can't seem to build one. I do have placeanywhere installed but in my case the build preview doesn't even show. Any thoughts?
Yeah same things happening for me. I can't seem to figure it out I tried moving it in both my left and my right panel of my load order in mod organizer 2 and for the life of me I can't get it to work.
Hope we can figure this out, I'd like to try this mod out since I love doing settlement attacks and an oversized turret annihilating a group of raiders is screenshot worthy.
I would prefer something that fires rather slowly since the damage is so high and I don't want big explosions. Unless you feel like making a couple different versions, say one with standard rounds and maybe one of each of the other types as well oh, I think plasma might be really neat. ;-) But I don't think it needs to have a high rate of fire since the damage is so high.
This is SO useful with the way the bad guys seem to be able to teleport into areas like Synths. But, will these turrets harm my settlers? Or just invaders?

there large size makes them kinda finicky

A global setting controls AI detection range if i change that all NPCs are affected not just the turret.
Thanks in advance. :-)
what about exploding/cryo/fire/plasma bullets?.
uploading mod and video now
So yes those three will probably kill settlers.
They will kill you instantly
so player only
How OP do you want them?
