To whomever takes this over (as the author has both left Fallout 4 and outright put permission to take it over onto the mod page itself):

My suggestion for whomever wishes to place something like blackberries, peanuts, or the like would be to develop the plant bearing them and have the mod post such things in place of the twigs, shrubs, and weedy crap.

Then the game itself will place them for you, leaving the matter of recipes and health benefits/hunger satiation.

I got this notion from the Bioshock Infinite ratty skirt replacement mod. If it's errant nonsense, just let me know politely and I'll stammer out an apology.

    Greetings:

First off, I wanted to say that I have loved and used this mod since it was introduced - until about 3 weeks ago. It was then I realized that this mod was the cause of me never seeing the pretty flowers in the vases. So, I reluctantly removed the mod. I put on my scale the weight of my annoyance at seeing the ugly bushes, vines, etc. and my desire to see the pretty flowers in the vases. I decided that I, somewhat pathetically, like the pretty flowers more.

I know it has been a long time since you've fooled around with this mod, and I hate to be one of those users who say, "Could you makes something special for me cause I'm special and all", but, could you make something special? Would it be possible to add back in the wild thistles, wild ferns, and pretty flowers in the vases?

Anyway, thank you very much for this mod, regardless.

I don't think you should "remove" fern and thistle because those are collectibles.

Can you please tell me the differences between this mod and "Clean Settlement" http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3100/?
    are they the same?

Thanks for this mod. Would it be possible to also get rid of the smaller tree branches? They look pretty bad too and you'd think they'd have broken off after being dead for 200 years

I know you aren't actually removing the objects, but are you reducing the object scales? You said you were making things smaller, but I was not sure if you meant you made the texture smaller, or if you also made the actual objects smaller, or what.

Textures and meshes are different things. Meshes are physical presence on objects. Some objects don't have physical presence like bushes (or so small meshes) that you can pass through them. Basically when you remove texture or made it so small (actually as far as I know you can't remove texture or PINK/PURPLE error will popup) you hide them or made them very small.

These textures are 4 by 4 sized (uses less vram) and transparent (so you can't see them).

Don't worry, I know the difference between textures and meshes. I'm a professional game dev.

The bushes do, indeed, have meshes. However, they only have render meshes, not physics meshes. Both tend to be derived from the same source mesh, though sometimes a simpler imposter is used for the physics when the source is overly complex.

So anyway, sounds like you're leaving the meshes alone and simply using a very small 100% transparent texture on them. That will improve perf on slow cards to some extent, mostly by improved vram and/or texture cache utilization. If Bethesda's shaders are smart, they will also "early-out" on zero alpha. That would do _less_ work per pixel, though the rasterizer will still process as many pixels as it would have with a 100% opaque texture.

It'd be nice if it were possible to remove the render mesh entirely from the object, though, or scale it down by 0. The game is not aware that the render meshes are made effectively invisible by the texture's alpha channel. That's the net result on-screen, but it doesn't have the foresight to know that. The game is still doing the following:

      - Adjust object transforms to simulate waving in the wind (CPU)
      - Decide which objects to draw (CPU)
      - Set up shader constants per object (some CPU, some GPU)
      - Touch all pixels covered by the render meshes, _possibly_ doing less work per pixel where alpha=0 (GPU)

Removing the render mesh from the object would be the ideal solution if removing the entire object causes problems. Second best would be to replace it with something extremely simple and tiny, which could at least reduce the size of the bounding box the game tests for visibility.

Another option would be to somehow mark the objects as "grass," since you can toggle grass display, but I suspect the grass display is a dedicated sub-system of their terrain engine, and the toggle applies only to the system and not actually to objects with particular tags.

I'm not pro dev or something like that. I'm just a guy who hate Bethesda's 3D ugly plants. I have no training on graphic editing if I could I would gladly replace them with beautiful realistic plants. You are right about everything, removing objects cause problems which is still Bethesda's fault. This happens in Skyrim too. This mod reduce vram usage that we all suffer from a lot yet GPU and CPU still suffer. I wish I had training or time to learn, it's too hard to complete master degree in uni. already which is very different field of work than computing (Hint: plants included)
Note: But I will think about replacing plants with meshes included.

The Knights who say Ni would be highly displeased by this.
