Wow thanks man, I try to find like this before but got no were. But I was wondering if you could share how you created a replacement mod? I have a few ideas of my own but I found nothing so far. So I be grateful to any help you can give.
It's my first time doing a weapon replacement mod. I couldn't find any useful info online, so I just did trial and error until I got it to work. If you open my .esp with Fo4Edit you will get an idea of what to do. Check the "weapon" tab under FormID. There are 4 lines there. the "Double-barrel" "2 companion's shotguns" and the "Caravan Shotgun" So what you're doing is pointing the vanilla weapons to use the mod's files to replace the vanilla weapons. I'm sorry if my explanation of it is bad, I'm not the best teacher.
If you spend a little time researching Fo4Edit and using it, it's actually pretty simple and nice to use.
So does this transform the existing DB shotgun to be like the caravan shotgun, or does it remove the DB from the leveled lists and add the CS in its place?
It replaces it with Caravan Shotgun yes. It should replace DB-Shotguns from leveled-lists too. It might not get all DB-Shotguns if you install in an already made save game.
Completely replace it. What mod is it that edits the Double barrel? This mod points the Double barrel to use textures, meshes and upgrades from DeadPool's mod.
I never really took much thought into double barrel shotguns but do you think that the vertical barrels make for more vertical recoil in practice or does it not matter? What is the advantages of each style? Genuinely curious.
Bro I am talking about real shotguns. I never really seen a double barrel shotgun with vertical barrels before and I am just wondering why since it seems like it be advantage over horizontal barrels.
Well in real life, an over-under barrel shotgun is easier to shoot since it's usually a little heavier so that the recoil is better absorbed than side by side double barrels. Also it produces less barrel flip, so it's easier to get the second shot on target.
Tracking for now, I'm in the middle of a playthrough and assume changing the gun mid-game would be a bad idea, but will definitely use in next playthrough.
I changed it mid-game to test if it would break, but it has worked flawlessly. All enemies have the new shotgun. I haven't seen a single vanilla Shotgun after I activated the .esp.
If you look in the files of that mod there already is a 10mm replacer version, I just tested it, and it works. Or use the other N99 mod, whichever suits you best.
I'm being really OCD about looks and I think the one you linked looks less like the one in Fallout 3/NV but is def much better detailed. Alas, it's not on Xbox :/
I know exactly how you feel, I've replaced every single weapon in my game ^^ Unless the author of the mod gives full permission to port the mod to Bethesda.net, there's nothing I can do sorry.

Just wondering, do you completely replace the gun or just swap mesh? Cuz I got some mod that edits DB shotgun
This is a (in my opinion) a much better and refined version of the n99, and comes with its own replacer!
