I was reminded last night from a YouTube video by YouTuber 'JuiceHead' of this new so-called 'Collections' feature that's been foisted on all Nexus Mod creators. I'm against it. All pretenses that mods uploaded to this site are the property of the mod creator are officially over. I read the spiel by 'BigBizKit' and am left unconvinced that this is a good deal for mod creators. It's Nexus/Black Tree's way or the highway bucko! Everyone else BUT Nexus/Black Tree Gaming must compromise. For the the good of the children.. I mean community! Poor Nexus/Black Tree Gaming, all those mean mod creators telling them they don't agree with their project. We've got to think about the curators of Collections! We can't have them be inconvenienced by those ass-hat mod creators who want control over THEIR mods!
I would have thrown in my two cents in the comment section of the official news statement of this issue, but they took the opportunity away from me to take a public stance on this issue by locking the comment section. I could write several paragraphs on that alone!
Reading that long-winded, never ending tirade by 'BigBizKit', it got me thinking about something. I question and distrust institutions, whether corporate or government. The way I see it is that there is an "angle" to anything, where there is the stated goal and the actual unstated intent. Call me "paranoid" or a "conspiracy theorist" all you want. This is just how my mind works. I have a pretty strong feeling that this 'Collections' thing is being prepped for the so-called "influencer' crowd on social media and YouTube. If Nexus/Black Tree Gaming secured a deal with (for the sake of argument)- Markiplier to put together a mod "Collection" for Skyrim, can you imagine the flocks of new people with money to burn, buying premium! If only 10% of Markiplier's audience (just for the sake of argument) were to buy Nexus premium, it would be an astronomical profit for a relatively low upfront investment!
This wouldn't be a problem if it were OPTIONAL, but reading 'BigBizKit' post, it's a 'our way or the highway buckaroo' ultimatum. I'll have everyone know that I'm a freedom lover who desires a "light touch" when it comes to private individual and business affairs. Having said that, this reeks of greed and short sightedness on part of Nexus/Black Tree Gaming.
Having got that off my chest- my simple little mod will stay on the Nexus as an open download. That tiny number of people who like my mod have no fear. Going by the statements of 'BigBizKit', I don't have a choice anymore anyway, but even if I did- it would stay up as a courtesy to anyone who finds value in it. I have no intention of putting it in "Archive". Or whatever they end up calling it down the line.
That mod is of good quality, but I won't be making a patch for it sadly. I don't like most of the Bethesda guns- they give me a Toys R' Us vibe- plastic toy guns. Last time I played FO4 I was using almost entirely real life inspired weapons. The M60, AR-15, FAL, Makarov and M9 were in heavy rotation. I dig cold war era guns.
Thank you for your kind words! I'd imagine my patch works fine in 1.8, unless there was an overhaul of the Thompson by Zawinul. When I can port over my Horizon 1.7 install from my old PC to my new one I'll look into it.
