Is this not lore-friendly really though? I mean, it takes place on the east coast ten years after Project Purity. My friend and I were actually upset to see that you got irradiated in the water by default. Understandably, the project was only intended to purify the water in the Potomac river, but still.
Most of the lingering radiation in this world should have been gone long ago. The oceans would never have been anywhere near harmful levels even. I can understand standing water having radiation if you somehow have a lingering source of radioactive material, but the ocean self cleans and shouldn't have the issue in the first place.
The closest area was clean of rads after project purity only because it was so close, but it never cleaned all of the Potomac as it was said to take time to clean the whole of the Potomac river. That being said purifying a river is FAR easier than purifying a ocean. The amount of water in the small space helps that. Purification would have slowed down by a land slide once it hit open water. It will take decades to purify the rest of the ocean. There is no way it would even be close to having Boston's water purified.
That's the thing with Fallout, reality and lore don't always play well together. The real ocean could never even become that irradiated, let alone stay that way for 200 years.
I always thought they could separate ocean and standing water to have different effects. I mean, drinking ocean water will screw you up after all. Not a palatable source.
there is a single perk that does this... ok not for NPC though... but i have the pool perk and swim all over the place and never got a single rad since
this works for Npc's also, I got tired of helplessly watching my allies die in water.
Before this, I had to open up the console and type getav health on every npc that was standing in water, and their health was draining slowly until they died. This mod stops that from happening.

That would require making the Water give no rads when drinking.
If I find out how to do that I'll upload "No Ocean Rads - Clean Water Edition"
Edit: Made it!
(jk, I have a feeling this is invaluable for NPCs)
Removed it, since someone already did that, link is in description
and reverted the mod to swimming with no rads, with the exception of the drinking water being dirty with rads

If it still doesn't work I may have to remove the mod.
