I've been using this mod for a while; since I play with minimal UI and hate opening the map every 30 seconds, it helps a lot in finding out when I've gotten into another town in a very immersive way.
FormID numbers in this mod need to first be compressed to be below hexadecimal FFF before it can be converted to esl. No problem doing it for myself; already done. Requesting it for less capable modders. I also combined them into a single file.
That's pretty much it. Always make a backup copy of the file before you start, just in case. After doing those two steps in FO4Edit, change the name of the file to end in ".esl".
You can also do this in the Creation Kit. There's a File menu command to compact the active file FormIDs and another one to convert it to a "light master" file. It will save a new esl copy of the file and also leave the original esp file.
One further note regarding the Creation Kit; once the file is an esl, the CK will no longer allow you to edit it directly. FO4Edit is fine, but the CK will still consider it a "master" file and won't let you make changes directly. It's handy to keep the esp copy updated to make changes. Then, every time you do, convert it to a light master again. It will then save the changes to the same esl file.
As a Masshole, I am honored to see this mod! Bravo! If you ever go back to making signs for more towns, could you add them for these? In exchange, these are the settlements I'd approximate them with on the map:
Could you make DIY looking ones for post-war 'towns' like Diamond City and Goodneighbour for example. Like they have taken those signs, covered the existing name and added their own?
Oh, this looks really cool. Definitely going to download this and try it out. Simple but still useful. It'll also be useful as an immersive way to sort of know where you are in case you don't have all the areas memorized. I'm talking to you Malden.
