For those like me who have had fits trying to get SLM to work, and failing only to end up with that darn pink fur, I have resorted to using FO4Edit (xEdit?), but the method is fairly simple and all you need is some focus and reading ability. Install it / run it, and when the mods you installed come up, look through them until you find Vulpine Curie Plugin. Double click on it and wait for the mod to install - the last entry on the right panel will say Finished. Click on the plus boxes in the left panel to open the mod tree up till it finally reads "EncCurieSynth" and "Curie." Now go to the right panel.
The first entry you'll want is Head parts (sorted), and it's all the way to the left on the main line, about a quarter of the way down the page. The panel is split in two, with Human values on the left and modded Vulpine values on the right. The first entry on the right should be hairstyle. Unfortunately this is something you'll have to try for yourself to see what you like, and involves a lot of saving and loading the game to view your changes. Click once or twice on the hairstyle entry until the Warning box appears - say yes - or a pulldown menu opens up. There will be a ton of choices, especially if you have done one of the Vulpine hairstyle patches, which is a good idea if you want lots of options. The most appropriate non-patched ones for me are No Nonsense, Rough Nite, Frazzled, and No Apologies ( VulpineHairFemale08 ) which is what I chose.
Below that are the eyes, with options for feral (slit like a fox) or Human, and eye color, and these are one entry, so if you want Human eyes scroll up for them. Eye color is rather light and subtle, but I decided rather than a pale blue, I wanted either green or violet. Violet is often name-swapped with purple, which is actually redder, and this is the case here, so I selected VulpineEyesPurpleFeral.
Last for the head entries is hair color, and for many of us the deep brown is too dark, unless you want a dark color fur. I want a more natural color fur for my Curie, and a shade darker hair color, so HairColor22Auburn works for me. Ginger is even closer, but I'm fine with it. Sometimes it reverts to dark brown for a while.
Now you'll have to do some experimentation for fur color. As is posted below by PlagueFox, the default fur color is "French," which is a gaudy deep pink, almost purple, which for me is intolerable. The color values are in Red Green Blue values from 0 to 255, and the value is how you mix them. Keep in mind that "color" is different than "pigment" or art media, and equal amounts of red and green make the color yellow, not brown as with paint.
You'll find these parameters 20 or so lines down the page in a header marked QNAM - texture lighting. The RGB values to the right are what you want to change, as the ones to the left are for Human skin tones. I wanted a kind of tawny orange-brown which is typical of foxes, and to make orangish colors requires more red than green. I needed some blue to fade it somewhat which lightens and grays the color a little for a more natural hue, so I settled on RGB values of 212, 140, 76. Below that is an entry for nose shaping which is listed as Nose - Sophisticated, which I leave as is.
I have some untested suggestions to try for different natural color fur. Lighten with more or darken with less of the Red-green values and/or more or less blue, though keep in mind that too much of the R-G values can be unnaturally strong, and too much blue will tend to be grayer.
These colors should have no effect on the charcoal fur on the lower arms and legs, or the white torso fur.
There's one more step which I do just to make sure. Not quite 15 lines down is Face Tinting Layers (sorted). A few lines down from that you'll find three entries for Color, which I make the same as the fur, 212, 140, 76.
The result is this lovely Vixen. She's wearing something skimpy so you can get a good look at her fur. And I can too.
By the way, give me plantigrade Human legs and feet all day long. They work best physiologically to properly support a biped.
i like it, her features are pretty cute once the transition is finished. something surprised me though.
shes pink!
it isnt a deal breaker for me, but some screenshots that show that off better might be appropriate. i think id have preferred more natural tones, and can probably just edit them myself another time. (especially since the pink contrasts her hair color a lot.)
no issues other than that, and even then its sort of a personal gripe. thanks for the mod~
Heads up, you CAN change her appearance with SLM. You just need to spawn her base id version to do it.
Curie's base id is: 001647C6
Use the command: player.placeatme 001647C6 to summon her in her base form. If for some reason yours is different, you can use the command help curie 4 and find the code at the top. Base curie wont follow you and wont talk to you.
Once you've spawned her, you can select her and edit her as you would any NPC. Once you've finished editing base curie, you can save your changes and then disable the base curie you spawned.
Now go to the actual follower curie and load your preset on her if you have looksmenu (the mod), or mess around with and change a couple different random parts of her until the new changes load onto her. Boom, custom curie.
unfortunately as others have stated, while this method seems to work somewhat, hair style and color, body color and edits to skin overlays (i.e. silver vulpine) dont seem to stick. its possible something used by you isnt being used by those with this problem, or there may be some other reason, but yeah.
Could be that I'm using looksmenu (the mod) to save the preset after I finish editing. After going back to regular follower curie, I just load the preset and exit the character editor.
Cute? Maybe as the robot but otherwise she's just a human, well Synth but she just looks like another generic human. If anything now I have a reason to not keep her as a robot. Now I just need Danse and maybe Gage then all of the non-modded companions I use will look decent for once.
Gage makes sense as a furry since after all The PAck is a thing, Though it would be kinda weird that he would't be put as their leader due to his race alone in that time line
@BadMeme Fallout 4's main plot makes it weird, But if she ain't a human synth, Then it makes it less weird since then it is xenophelia potentialy depending on the loré that one considers canon to the vuilpine race mod
I have tested it and it worked fine. I tried multiple saves as well, same result. I don't expect it to work with everyone so I'm hoping for bug reports. It was indeed tricky but my results were a success.

Wonder how it would be able to use some mods hairs too.

the vulpine race mod has literally hundreds of colors available to pick from, from naturey browns and greys to neon blues and greens.
this particular shade of pink is labeled, in the vulpine mod... 'French'.

Hope this helped <3
would love to know more on this issue.
But it would be great if you would be able to change her in slm.
I want to change the shape and hair.
