Set shadows 2 medium first the draw distance is to close & combined with the shadow blended to low (by default on all settings) shadows are just one big pop in. So go to your Fallout4Prefs.ini & just change two setting like this:
fBlendSplitDirShadow=3000 fDirShadowDistance=6000This is my personal setting but you can go higher 1000 at a time DirShadow any higher is to soft.
That's it you will have shadows at longer range & no more shadow creeping in front of you & your fps should be solid with better load times moving from one cell to another, but don't forget too set read only or the ini will revert to medium again if you change setting in the launcher.
Thanks!! that got rid of the shadow drawing in front of me. I don't understand how that setting these in the configuration menu of the game results in shadow creeping in front of my char no matter what settings I use. its like the game dev who created the menu settings for the game did not understand what all the setting did....
Blend split set to 1 makes shadows less blurry. I have mine set to this. fBlendSplitDirShadow=1.0000 fShadowDistance=56000.0000 fDirShadowDistance=9500.0000 uiOrthoShadowFilter=1 uiShadowFilter=1 iShadowMapResolution=8192
Thank you for this! Not related, but you made me realize that the reason my PC was struggling with FO4 interiors was the shadow resolution. I was at 4096, whish is ridiculous with to my old graphics card. I set it to 2048 and everything is running sooth.
It doesnt work. All your settings do is changing the fBlendSplitDirShadow. You will remove that "line" when it switches from low res to highres, but you will have blurry shadows all over the place. Waste of time.
Well he's pretty much right. fBlendSplitDirShadow seems to be the only value making any difference. And it works, I can live with softer shadows if it gets rid of that fugly transition.
The best value I've found to use for fBlendSplitDirShadow is 192. That's as high as you can go without causing issues. Makes for a pretty smooth transition.
This did actually help. After a few hours of shooting in the dark with three different INI configurators and not getting very far. Although I did turn the shadow resolution up to 3072 becasue 1024 was too chunky. But that didn't work before and now it does.
