Loving this mod and never playing without it. One small caveat however: While the addition of the drum magazine is cool, I wish the other magazines hadn‘t been changed. I like the progression from small box magazine to curved horn magazine to drum mag. Also, the ammo capacity of the curved magazine is now a little too low for my taste. It made more sense to me that the small box magazine had 24 rounds, the long curved magazine 40 rounds, and then the drum mag could have something around 72 to 80 rounds.
Thanks, it always bugged me that the Combat Rifle fired a .45cal APC round for a 45 auto pistol. Though I find it strange you picked 5mm instead of 5.56mm.Not to sound a critic. However, 5.56mm as it's base ammunition would make the most sense personally. The option to turn it into a 5mm weapon with a small damage nerf would be neat, but I think it should keep its .308 upgrade regardless as it turns it into basically a BAR.
Personally making it 5mm is a bit OP, being it would allow players to find a lot of 5mm ammo throughout the game to supply a mini gun let alone off enemies who use mini guns, and the player also starts with a lot of 5mm ammo from the minigun in concord meaning once you find your first combat rifle, ammo wise you're pretty much set for life.
I'm playtesting a new version currently. I'll lower its damage to 30 along with a weight overhaul changes. As for choosing 5mm, because 5mm is THE military rifle cartridge since Fallout 1 for me. I don't take the way making 5.56mm/.223 the standard cartridge for assault rifles as in real life. This is the thing I won't consider to change in my mod even if it's a bit OP in ammo wise.
This is one of my all-time fave mods; it's proof that making a few small changes can add a great deal to a game. Fixes the rationale for 5mm rounds, the Combat Rifle, and if anything contributes to the Lore. Well done!
I edited the file to make 5mm rounds do 15.5 damage per-shot since they are the weakest round in the Vanilla game. now with a automatic receiver and a large drum mag I can now have a 8.5 pound mini-minigun XD thank you NovaRain
I dropped the .esp into Data folder, opened the game and combat rifle was still .45 caliber, did I do something wrong and/or do I have to enable the .esp some way?
The official launcher disables .esp files currently. You need to use NMM or other mod managers to bypass it. Personally I use Fallout 4 Configuration Tool as the launcher replacement and YAFOMM for managing mods.
