Uploaded an optional version with max chance irregardless of your Int based on the vanilla max of Hex 09 00 or 9% and another version with its set to the max of a single hex 0F00 or 15% If you guys want me to go even higher let me know.
I think that maybe the best way to edit the perk is to switch it around a bit - leave the percentages the way it is with int, 10% at 1 int, and 1% at 10 int, but let Luck increase the percentage 1% at 1 luck to 10% extra chance at 10 luck. So at base 1 int and 5 luck you'll have 15% chance, 1 int 10 luck, 20% chance - 10 int 10 luck, 10% chance.
what rank do you have? Ive been testing with rank 2 and it proced several times while upgrading my towns, keep in mind unless you have rank 3 you only get the proc on events like crafting, quest turn ins, and discovery of locations rank 3 is the combat one. But I'm tweaking it to increase the odds
my perk list changed but the occurrence is lower than before.
i was using 1 int and lv 2 idiot savant build, then i use this mod and increase my int to 10. the perk was only happen once while i did a numbers of lock picking, hacking, discovering, persuading.
the idiot savant (vanila) is actually happened quite a lot when i was killing. so it has chances on battle too. the lvl3 is adding new thing, when idiot savant happen during battle, every kill after that is 3x exp (for a brief moment, which is worthless for me).
can you try to make it 100% and try whether your method (in this mod) works or not.
It works, but not as often as the original Idiot Savant perk and not nearly as often as it should to be a worthwhile perk. My character is maxed on intelligence and in the last 8 or so hours of gameplay it has activated only twice. Considering it costs three levels worth of experience to max out the perk, I doubt it'll even end up paying for itself. It's a shame because it's definitely a great idea. I'd really like to see this mod updated so that at 10 intelligence it occurs as often as Idiot Savant does at 1 intelligence and vice-versa.
i dont know why its not working for you guys in my video with my character with 11 int i just spam buildings in workshop mode withthe maxed version and it procks pretty often. Now granted the animation doesnt play but i think that's a limit of the system i placed numerous copies of the same object and could see the exp proc for the same object several times. The only other thing ican think of is to increase the multiplier further
When I say it only activated twice for me, I mean that the animation/audio only activated twice. I haven't been keeping track of the amount of experience each time so you may well be right in that it's activating and I'm just unaware of it. I'll load up a save and start spamming build objects later when I can and get back to you with some figures. I'll try to do a whole bunch to get a decent aggregate.
The numbers are definitely off. I just tested this in game and given the result and the sample size, it's definitely not working as intended.
First I tried it with cooking. I made 200 mirelurk omelettes which normally give 1xp each. The perk activated only 4 times, with only two of those playing the animation. Two of the activations gave me 3xp and two of them gave me 7xp.
Next I tried it with building where I made 100 chairs and it only activated twice, with the animation playing both times.
With a test size of just 300 combined tries I could understand it not activating exactly 9% of the time, but just 2%? That's way too low for chance.
This was done with a character of 10 intelligence (9 from character creation and 1 from the "You're Special" book so there was no cheating to achieve this stat.
Just out of interest, I thought I'd check the other two versions of your download. I tested each by making 100 mirelurk egg omelettes and building 100 chairs.
For your Max 15 version, it activated 7 times out of 200 tests (3.5% instead of the expected 15%) and for your max chance version is activated 3 times out of 200 tests (1.5% instead of 9%).
this is quite weird considering the only chnge is one float value reversed from the vanilla...that said let me tinker with the numbers again i'll try the hex value for 50% for a new optional, hang tight
Tried the new 50 version. Found the intelligence bobble head so my character now has an intelligence of 11.
Out of 200 tries, it activated twice. I equipped the VaultTec Labcoat and Ushanka hat to raise intelligence to 14 and out of 200 tries it didn't activate at all.
Just a heads-up... I've tested this mod enough now to definitively come to the conclusion that the lower my character's intelligence, the more it works. You may be changing the chance of the original Idiot Savant perk in some way, but it still decreases with an increase in intelligence to the point where anything above 11 or so makes it near impossible to occur.
Thank you so much for "rubbing together two brain cells" to make idiot savant a usable perk, personally I like to call it "Eureka" (yes it is cliché) but there is basis for luck in real world science. The thing with the current perk system and that it's some perks only improve only in V.A.T.S and now with Fallout 4 competent gun play they are now unproductive.
Unless you happen to be playing on a console where there is no decent aim assist. modders to the rescue though. personally i do not see this as an answer, there have always been perks that cannot be used with other perks, this one is meant to aid people who went the route of luck instead of intelligence.
I went with a intelligence as my prime SPECIAL and then I look at vanila idiot savant and I did not see a reason to get it. I play on PC and I can count the amount of time I have used V.A.T.S on one hand. What I what to say that the current perks system is not dubble edge how example sniper perk level 3 it helps in V.A.T.S with +25% head shoot accuracy, but not outside by reducing with scope sway?!
Dubble edge perk system for player that use V.A.T.S and for players that don not use V.A.T.S and synergy between perks.
You are probably not playing on Survival. I can't see myself doing most of my incursions or purges without VATS. Saying that, I use a mod that I can be one shot very easily by anything.
Actualy even on survival it's no big deal to play without using VATS. I abandoned VATS back in new vegas when we finally got a decent weapon system and haven't missed it since. The only enemies that I use it on occasionally is bloodstingers or whatever the insects are called, as they are pretty annoying zickzacking around with their thin bodies and their op poison (in survival at least). They are basically this games version of the new vegas cazadores which also forced people to use VATS every once in a while because they too moved around way too fast in relation to the size of their bodies making you feel like you're trying to hit a tin can that's in a goddamn tornado. But those things are pretty rare anyway and all other enemies can just as easily be killed without VATS.
