If you experience NPCs not being replaced, try placing this mod lower in your load order. Be aware that this can break things down the road, but in case of cosmetic mods, things should be fine.
This mod used to work before but now it's not working at all. I don't know why.
All female NPCs have blank white untextured bodies and normal vanilla heads that don't have working animations for speaking, eating, or expressing emotion. I installed this mod along with its requirements (including compatibility patches for UFO4P and Armor Keywords) and chose to replace only the female NPCs. I placed all the associated esp plugins as close to the bottom of my load order as possible. Despite spending an hour on tweaking things, this problem still persists. Does anyone know a fix that involves more than just adjusting the load order? Because I think I need to do more than that.
I play the NG version 1.10.984 and I use MO2 as my mod manager.
I think I figured out the problem for my mod list, it was X-Cell.
X-Cell is a performance optimization mod, so I assumed it did nothing to affect the actor meshes, but it does. Some sort of issue it has with facegen data causes the mismatched heads. Disabling X-Cell should help unless you don't have it.
I discovered this by creating a test mod profile with all the mods in the correct load order and then enabling them one at a time, launching the game every time I enabled another mod, until I came across one that caused the problem.
Okay... I'm out of ideas... so I'm asking for any kind of help here please.
I downloaded the latest, installed and selected "Both" as the option to replace. So far so good. I put it at the bottom of my list in MO2 on both sides, left and right, so bottom of the list on the left and bottom of the list in the plugins. So far so good. I fire up my game and wouldn't you know it... literally all NPC's are female :/ I ensured I have all prereqs for all the Nana mods so there shouldn't be an issue there and my nana mods are at the bottom of my lists.
After not finding a solution, I uninstalled and then downloaded the independent old file for "both" then installed that, ensured it was at the bottom of my list. Fire up the game and wouldn't you know it... all NPC's are still female... this is frustrating.
What am I doing wrong here? Why isn't this working? Have I missed something?
EDIT: I did a wild search and found the mod titled Anime Race Male NPC Patch located here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/45856
That patch fixed my issue. So if you're running into the same situation, give that patch a try and hopefully it works for you! <3
As much as I'd love to use this it does come with one inherent flaw - Which is probably just a flaw with how the Animerace works.
Headshots are more difficult, in and out of VATS. - The Anime face counts as part of the 'Body' and only the hair counts as the head. - This severely affects VATS accuracy since unless you have the Penetration Rank 2 perk, something as simple a an NPC turning around can make a 95% chance to hit into a 7% chance to hit.
I dunno, it works perfectly for me. It's actually easier to hit their heads now because I can actually see them. I just wish that it would play the intro so I don't need to skip with Alternate starts because they tend to ruin the game.

There might be a way to make X-Cell work without causing problems with the facegen data but it is much simpler to just not enable it.
