New version uploaded 1.4 This version allows you to choose which four brands, (of the eight supplied,) you will have in your game. It does require some renaming of the textures so everything shows up correctly. If that is beyond you, stick to version 1.3 and the four brands are pre-chosen. (Lucky Strike, Camel, Marlboro, and Salem.)
Both versions randomizes the branding of the pre-placed cartons and packs scattered throughout the Commonwealth.
Also added optional downloads that replace the textures for the cigars and the cigar boxes and another optional download that should replace all instances of the Grey Tortoise. --- Both advertising and ground clutter with Lucky Strike, Camel and Marlboro ads. Salem didn't advertise on billboards that I could find, so it was just used for some of the ground clutter replacements along with the other brands.
With smoking mods, until a merge is made only the original cigarettes (Lucky Strike on v1.3, or whichever brand you chose as the main brand on v1.4) will be usable. The other three will be listed in your junk list and are not able to be broken down into smoke-able use currently.
I used this for a long time so looooooooooooooots of love first and foremost. It finally had to go though; the machine textures just stood out too much. If you ever update, i'll be right back here grabbing it up all over again.
I haven't had this game installed in several years, but if I recall correctly, you will need to open the .esp with Creation Kit and replace the names I used with whatever you choose to rename them as and resave.
I haven't had this game installed for the last three+ years, so my recollection isn't perfect on how the game mechanics work anymore.
The way the script was written it shouldn't add anything, only change the appearance of what's already existing in the game. If you're coming across more than the usual amount items, I'd have to assume another mod is having some affect with this one. If I remember correctly, at the time I uninstalled the game there were several mods from other authors that changed the level lists or the frequency of how spawn items appeared. That's my best guess.
There is the mod "Realistic Pre-War Cigarettes" by henkspamadres Which drastically lowers the spawn rate of cigarettes (by about 99% to quote the author). It also removes the Junk category from them so that they don't accidentally get scrapped, and makes them 10x more valuable to reflect the new found rarity. IMO 99% is too rare, but if you have any knowledge of how to mod and that bothers you, I'm sure you'll be able to edit it on your own. Hope this helps.
Awesome mod. I personally have my game setup to have Grey Tortoise, Camel, Winston & Lucky Strike. My headcanon is that Grey Tortoise paid for advertising rates rights in Boston, so their advertising is everywhere, but the other brands are still available. I adjusted the LL rates slightly to account for this, and made Camel & Winston slightly more valuable.
Then rename those grey tortoise texture files based on the instructions in this mods readme (direct cut and paste from the readme file):
4. Choose four brands that you want in your game. You will have to rename some of the texture files to have them properly applied.Leave the cigarette name alone for the main cigarette. Include all textures in that folder. For the second brand of cigarettes you will need to rename the textures you've selected from: cigarettecarton01_clean_d to cigarettecarton02_clean_d cigarettecarton01_clean_n to cigarettecarton02_clean_n cigarettecarton01_clean_s to cigarettecarton02_clean_s cigarettecarton01_d to cigarettecarton02_d cigarettecarton01_n to cigarettecarton02_n cigarettecarton01_s to cigarettecarton02_s cigarettepack_clean_d to cigarettepack_clean2_d cigarettepack_clean_n to cigarettepack_clean2_n cigarettepack_clean_s to cigarettepack_clean2_s cigarettepack_d to cigarettepack2_d cigarettepack_n to cigarettepack2_n cigarettepack_s to cigarettepack2_s
Obviously replace which ever of the four packs you don't want in your game. Make any edits to the .esp as far as naming, rarity and pricing. (OPTIONAL)
Somehow i missed your response, but better late than never!
Was using the same retexture for the vanilla ones anyway, so its perfect! I selected GT, Lucky Strike (my old brand), Salem (seems fitting with the game's location) & Camel. Everything worked fine! Only issue was that the vending machine was showing the 3 brands i chose, but instead of GT it was showing a brand i didn't chose. Not an issue though, was thinking to use a different retexture anyway
Now i hope someone can make a version with all the vanilla GT + all 8 brands.
Looks nice, just to be sure, does this replaces the vanilla Grey Tortoise with ones of the brands & adds 3 more, or its the vanilla +4 new brads (5 total brands)?
Great job
Edit: yap it does, anyone can help me how to keep the Grey Tortoise & add 3 new brands from the mod?

Purple meshes are usually a sign that the proper texture cannot be found. I would have to assume that you've accidentally placed the textures in the wrong folder. I would uninstall then reinstall the mod, making sure if you are using the pick your own brand version that everything is spelled correctly.

Are these file really needed or they are leftovers & safe to remove?
I personally use the Grey Tortoise textures from this mod: Grey Tortoise Cigarettes Redux
