AWESOME! Thanks so much for this, been hoping this might get done
EDIT: Its...GLORIOUS! Now I can see the carnage -funny thing is, on my setup I can still see faint smoke trails, much reduced, actually looks great. Makes the yellow tracer much more pronounced. Thought I would let you know in case its unintentional.
It seems the texture isn't fully transparent. Quick fix is to open the file in question; SmokeTracerVaporTile.dds (data/textures/effects) with Paint.net, GIMP or any other suitable program. Reduce the background layer opacity to a value of between 0 and 5 percent. Make a backup, save and overwrite... DXT1 format should be fine. Tested on turret firing in complete darkness, works like a charm.
EDIT: The yellow projectile/tracer is still there in case you're worried about that disappearing too.
Beautiful. I hated how all the bullets had tracers. It looks and feels much more natural trying to determine an enemies position by the muzzle flash, rather than having their position highlighted by squibs of smoke trailing right back to them.
