Just to clarify a few things that keep getting asked here Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini do not have 'bUseCombinedObjects' or 'bUsePreCreatedSCOL' in them by default. If they are not there you are good.
If it shows in your ini as: bUseCombinedObjects=0 or bUsePreCreatedSCOL=0 Either DELETE the entry OR set it to bUseCombinedObjects=1 or bUsePreCreatedSCOL=1
A mod can override the fallout4.ini files with their own ini files See this link: Creation Kit INI files more details.
Example:RustbeltFlorahas 'Rustbelt Flora.esp' and 'Rustbelt Flora.ini' with the following setting:
Mod ini files will be installed to the data folder along with the *.esp/*.esl/*.esm and have the same effect as placing them in the Fallout4.ini directly. If you find a mod has its own ini in the data folder, check it. Delete any setting you do not want or delete the ini file itself.
**Final Note** The settings addressed on this mod page will make the game run as FO4 was intended to run when set to 1; but, some mods, such as some Scrap and Flora mods that use 0 to do their work will not longer work as intended.
Precombines meshes are locked; Texture they had before being precombined DO NOT change when you add new textures to the game. The only way to change them is to break the precombine and rebuild them using the Creation Kit or changing the INI setting bUseCombinedObjects to 0
If you want to make your own custom ini settings without changing the main game ini files, add a new file called Fallout4Custom.ini to your '\Documents\My Games\Fallout4' folder. Add any settings you want to this file.
So I went into my fallout custom ini folder and low and behold there isnt any "bUseCombinedObjects" line or anything just two lines of text. Can i get some help on this please?
The infinite loading bug was causing me so much pain for my entirety of FO4 playthrough until I tried your fix. Holy hell. What a world of difference it made!!
I'm using a Commonwealth overhaul mod too but I didnt even notice a diff in the visual aesthetics with the .ini change. You're doing god's work, man. I've downloaded your ini just to endorse you for this!
Wow I was getting 20fps and with this its 50 THANK YOU side note if you are using MO2 it uses a virtual file system meaning the ini's that you have to search for are in the virtual files/individual mods folders.
How do I check in a new game if the precombines are disabled or enable? I am not sure if any mods in my list overwrite the fallout4.ini and fallout4custom.ini files.
I've tried a lot of different stuff. Anything that adds bUseCombinedObjects 0 destroys fps. But i need to have Scrap everything. i did a fresh install with just "Scrap everything" and enabled bUseCombinedObjects 0. This causes sick frame drops in some areas. Then i changed my ini to bUseCombinedObjects 1 and had 0 issues with framedrops and such. Scrap everything worked fine too. Didn't notice any bugs. to confirm this i scrapped half of sanctuary with SE and taveled all over the world map with time advancements. So i think it should work fine. I'm trying it on my main fallout profile with 230-40 mods now to confirm it. see if i get random ctds or so.
I found a sort of workaround for using busecombinedobjects and scrap everything.
There's another mod by the name of .ini setting switcher that allows you to switch .ini settings in-game. (even has hotkeys for profiles).
What i do is in my settlement i switch combine objects off and when i leave i switch it on, takes about 10 seconds to switch. [changes you make take effect in the next world cell you enter, ones you are in will not be affected until you leave and return to them so just fast travel]
Just be aware that disabling pre-combined objects will make that most scrap mods will no longer work, since al individual objects will be loaded as one big whole. Users of Scrap Everything will be able to add that mod below this one, but folk who use Spring Cleaning won't since that mod uses an esm instead of an esl...
He enables Precombined, not the other way around, and if i remember correctly that is default on, so i don't uderstand why it is posted as a mod..kinda silly..
I checked mine before doing anything and it was on and I know I have a couple of mods that break this and if you watch the first video it states that mods that break or have no precombines all together need to be fixed individually because they affect the areas they edit and that we should not touch the .ini setting. Theres also a video showing how to fix them below the first. I actually tried this fix before I watched the video and it made my game worse probably because I was trying to turn something on that was already on. So for myself I seriously dont recommend using these ini settings but it might work for others but be prepared.
this helped stabilize my game, it hardly CTD'd before, but i wanted to over mod my forests and im using another green mod and common wealth conifers together and war of the common wealth i even have a copy of resurrection that i may use at some point in time though i haven't checked out what conflicts those 3 Forrest overhauls might have with each other but i was crashing in about 5 minutes in Boston but now im running around with 300% speed to see if i can crash and only when i start lobbing nukes like a mad man with weapon debris turned on do i finally crash so this helped quite a bit. i dont intend to have the game always that active but i needed to see how much my hardware could handle before i scale things back to something more reasonable.

Scrap everything is incredibly handy....
(the clean and simple mods are a decent substitute but not perfect).
