As per LOOT telling me when sorting my load order, this bug has been patched by Bethesda in the latest version of the game, and this mod is no longer required.
Good on the mod author for creating this, though. Shame I never stumbled upon it sooner. My old save game character has 5000 .38 rounds, and very, very few .44 rounds, and I never knew why...
First, I want to say this is a great mod. I've been using it from the day I bought the game. Really made the Scrounger perk more useful.
The 1.4 patch that was released today changed the Scrounger perk and addresses some of the issues this mod does, so some of what this does is no longer necessary, but there are still some noticeable differences between this and vanilla 1.4. Here they are in detail if anyone is interested:
1) This mod adds Flamer Fuel (still not included with the 1.4 patch) 2) All ammo types available at level 1 rather than some being unlocked at higher levels 3) .50 caliber available at half the quantity as vanilla (equal to .308 as the description says) 4) 2mm EC available at 1/3 the quantity as vanilla (prior to 1.4 this wasn't part of the perk at all) 5) Plasma Cartridges available at half the quantity as vanilla (prior to 1.4 this wasn't part of the perk at all). This is true only for the ScroungerPerkChance list; ScroungerPerkChanceSmall is same as vanilla now. I'm not sure which ranks of the perk use which list off-hand.
I'm curious if in the next version the quantities could be adjusted to match the 1.4 patch and also provide an optional version that retains level requirements rather than making things like 2mm EC (normally only available at level 30) spawn equally with other ammo at level 1. I realize this is a matter of preference. From a lore standpoint, your level shouldn't effect the chance of ANY items spawning obviously, but since weapons are leveled, ammo may as well be also.
I'm a little mad I actually don't know how to do this myself...I'd really rather not mess with someone else's work either. Pity. Hope the author shows face and sees your comment.
Thank you for making this! The whole reason I got Scrounger was for fusion cores and I feel like I haven't found any randomly.
However, I also haven't found any since installing this mod and I've played quite a bit. Could I have screwed something up? I just used NMM to download it. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.
Is this wrong then? - "Because of the fact that fusion cores are used as ammunition for the Gatling laser the scrounger perk allows you to find them at an increased rate. " http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fusion_core
Good catch on the Wikia error Tehdarkknight. That note was added by an anonymous editor and never verified. I will see about fixing that. Thedailygrind is right. Fusion cores are not listed as an ammo type affected by the Scrounger perk in the game files. Even as of patch 1.4. There are probably other mods that add them to the perk, but I know of one off-hand -- Simple Bug Fixes. However, be aware it is dated and at least two patches have been released since.
Edit: I take that back. Simple Bug Fixes does contain a leveled list for fusion cores for the Scrounger perk, however, it doesn't appear to be used. Probably an idea the mod author played with but decided against.
Grabbed this mod, and its nice finding the odd ammo types (2mm EC, shotgun, .44, etc) But .50 seems to have gone completely out the window, doesnt seem to match the quantity of .308 I've found (10 .50, 90+ .308, with constant use of the .308 for killing things), and .38 still seems to be very much favored by the loot table (Well over 1100 at level 10, with consistent use)
In my prior save I had quite a bit more .308 and .50 (Around 200 w/ purchasing from vendors for the .308, about 250 just from drops for .50) by the point I'm at, and as a sniper at heart, thats a bit unfortunate
Edit: Played quite a lot more, Now level 18, 513 .308 with constant use, only 67 .50 of which I've purchased 14 from vendors, and of which I havent fired a single one
.38 also definitely seems to be abnormally favored still, at 1962 rounds now and I've sold a good 600 for caps, as well as using it for smaller targets, roaches and such.
Any chance you could fix the 5mm drops too? I've been playing for a good level 30 and I think I found a total of 500-1000 ammo only the entire time. Flamer ammo drops all the time by comparison thanks to the mod.
How does stuff like this make it past QA? I mean surely ANYONE that has played the game for any period of time with even rank 1 Scrounger will notice the rapid accumulation of .50 cal cartridges, and barely any shotgun shells which should be much more common.
I didn't notice till someone mentioned it on reddit, which lead me here now. Looking back, I was kinda wondering why I had so few shotgun shells, but it never really hit me that I hadn't been finding much at all.

Fusion Cores are affected by Luck.
