Armalite Rifle (Armalite Rifle 18 , AR-18) is an automatic rifle developed in the United States before Great War.
This gun was designed with the concept of simplifying the service rifle (AR-15) of the US military
with the aim of being able to manufacture even in ally countries without advanced production facilities.

Cutting of stainless steel and aluminum was necessary for manufacturing AR-15, and advanced machine tools were required.
AR-18 was designed to be manufactured by press working which is simpler than cutting.
Also, regarding the method of operating the bolts, from the Direct Impingement method that the American military was doubtful at that time, it was changed to an orthodox gas piston method.
This made the engine part compact, unlike the AR-15 which was designed to store the recoil buffer inside the stock, it was possible to adopt the folding type folding stock.
AR-18 is more advanced than AR-15, it is a masterpiece rifle with high reliability and productivity.
Therefore, AR-18 were many produced in American allies and had a major impact on next generation rifles in those countries.
Especially Japan was greatly affected by this gun.
This gun became the prototype of HOWA RIFLE (Howa Type 89) adopted by the Japanese Self Defense Force.

AR-18 itself was rarely used in the military, but its robust and easy design is perfect for Wasteland Firearms.
Individuals excavated from prewar ruins and individuals reproduced in NCR of the Mojave desert were brought in to Commonwealth through caravans.

Armalite Rifle(アーマライト・ライフル 18 , AR-18)は戦前のアメリカ合衆国で開発された自動小銃です。
この銃は高度な生産設備を持たない同盟国でも製造できる事を目的とし、
アメリカ軍のサービスライフル(AR-15)を簡略化するというコンセプトで設計されました。

AR-15の製造にはステンレスやアルミの切削加工が必要であり、高度な工作機器を要しました。
本銃は、切削加工より簡単なプレス加工によって製造できるように設計されました。
また、ボルトの動作方法については、当時アメリカ軍が疑問視していたリュングマン式からオーソドックスなガスピストン方式に変更されました。
これによって機関部をコンパクト化でき、ストック内部にリコイルバッファーを格納する設計となっていたAR-15と違い
折りたたみ式のフォールディングストックを装備することができました。
AR-18はAR-15よりも先進性があり、信頼性と生産性の高い傑作小銃でした。
故に、この銃はアメリカの同盟国で多数生産され、それらの国の次世代小銃に大きな影響を及ぼしました。
特に日本の自衛隊が採用したHOWA RIFLE(豊和89式)のプロトタイプとなるなど、日本が受けた影響は絶大でした。

Armalite Rifle(AR-18)自体が軍隊で使用されることは殆どありませんでしたが、
その設計思想は戦後復興を目指すWastelandの人々にとっては完璧な兵器と言えるでしょう。
戦前の遺跡から発掘された個体や、モハヴェ砂漠のNCRに再生産された個体が
キャラバンを通じて数多くコモンウェルスに持ち込まれ、取引されています。
