The Trader cravan's brahmin/assaultron is marked protected and unique,so only the player or explosions can kill them, i just watched doc weathers assaultron take out the revere satellite array in under a minute.
The provisioner assaultron can be killed and it will respawn. You do not need to finish automatron,they are ready from the start.
You will need a fresh save game or they will be invisible.
