About this mod

This mod seeks to give less impersonal, lore friendly names to the weaponry in Fallout 4.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Disclaimer: I like guns alot but I'm not a gun fetishist, some of these changes will be imperfect and possibly inaccurate.

Ammunition

2mm Electromagnetic Cartridge/2mm EM Cartridge: I have changed the name simply for simplicity.

Mini Nuke/M-42 Mini Nuke: The mini nuke was likely created alongside it's launcher so I figured it'd bear the same designation.

Fusion Cell/Microfusion Cell: It's been called a microfusion cell since Fallout 1, why Bethesda changed it is beyond me. Although I never had a problem with it, it might help further distinguish them from fusion cores.

Missile/M-76 Missile: Sharing the same concepts of the frag mines and frag grenades as well as actual aesthetic design similarities it's not too much of a jump to figure the missile was designed alongside the said explosives and might share a designation.

Shotgun Shell/12 Gauge Shotgun Shell: Simply calling it a shotgun shell is like calling all bullets in the game simply bullet. 12 Gauge is the most commonly used modern shell (honestly as far as I know the most commonly used shell period) so I decided to roll with it.

Guns

10mm Pistol/Colt N99 Pistol: While it's not a perfect copy of the previous N99s Bethesda prefers to change the lore and aesthetic of their games with each one rather add onto it like a decent world builder. It is still close enough (especially with certain modifications to the barrel) to be called the N99.

.44 Pistol/S&W Model 29 Pistol: It just is what is, also I would love to replace the pistol part with revolver but with how the instance naming rules work I would have to gut them and make new entry for multiple weapons to do so.

Assault Rifle/Browning M2066 LMG: Let's not even talk about Bethesda's stupidity here. I've renamed it with the idea that it was dual designed for power armor users and common infantry. In reality a power armor user would lose the ability to use most small arms made for infantry due to their large mechanized digits thus the army designed a weapon that the mechanized infantry could use easily en mass to replace the use of assault rifles as well as the normal infantry as a support weapon.

Combat Rifle/R-74 Combat Rifle: I like the idea of it being a predecessor to the more advanced R-91 assault rifle. Taking inspiration from the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle and the sturdy built SCSG-12 combat shotgun it was probably marketed to police and private security as a rifle and carbine counterpart to the SCSG-12. I also made sure to change the instance naming rule so it's not overwritten by "combat sniper rifle".

Combat Shotgun/SCSG-12 Combat Shotgun: There's a lack of semi-auto shotguns in Bethesda's Fallout games so I figured the concept hadn't really caught on yet, a fact that Stent Security Solutions decided to cash in on with the creation of the SCSG-12 (Stent Combat Shotgun). Intended for police use (primarily with anti riot capability in mind) and private securities, when the Shino-American war came along the military probably adapted them for clearing out trenches and bunkers thus possibly earning Stent their military contract.

Lever Action Rifle/Marlin Model 1895 Rifle: Once again it just is what it is.

Double-Barrel Shotgun/Beretta 470 Shotgun: Other than the silver receiver the vanilla double-barrel shotgun looks a hell of a lot like a Beretta 470 and thus I have named it such.

Fat Man/General Atomics M-42: The "Fat Man" is simply the nickname for the General Atomics M-42. As it's not a unique weapon (albeit an iconic one) I have given it it's actual name.

Flamer/FT-13 Flamer: The FT-13 is on the flamer's frame so I named it thusly, also I made sure to change the instance naming rule for it so it's not overwritten by "napalmer".

Gatling Laser/AEGL-3 Heavy Laser: Most mods rename the gatling laser after it's classic presentations the H&K L35 but this bears little resemblance to them and far more to the AE series of lasers so I named thusly. While I kept the GL (gatling laser) in the name it's not a gatling weapon thus the designation is a nod to the classics but ultimately I call it a heavy laser.

Gauss Rifle/M-67 Gauss Rifle: As pointed out elsewhere it looks like a predecessor to the M-72 Gauss rifle from the classic games so I've named it as such, I figured it came about as an anti armor weapon to counter the Chinese armored divisions, hence why they abandoned traditional armor for the method of just retrofitting mining vehicles as it was cheaper and no more vulnerable than proper armored vehicles.

Hunting Rifle/Remington M700 Rifle: Once again named for it's real life counterpart.

Institute/Institute Beam: Just something to further distinguish the Institute's energy weaponry. I am still toying between just simply designating it Institute Beam pistol/rifle or going for CIT beam pistol/rifle.

Laser/AEC-12 Laser: Once again with the instance naming rules being what they are naming the laser weapons AER-9/AEP-7 is sadly out of the question. The lasers in Fallout 4 seem a little more advanced than their predecessors led to the AEC-12 (C = Combination since it covers both laser pistol and rifle versions).

Minigun/Rockwell CZ53 Minigun: While not a perfect copy of any of the previous CZ53s it is now the canon CZ53.

Missile Launcher/Rockwell FRG-76 Missile Launcher: Honestly I had a hard time with this one so I took it from the Immersive Weapon Names Redone and Updated mod like the frag grenades and mines.

Plasma/REPCONN X-16 Plasma: Technically it should be REPCONN X-16 Urban Plasma but the urban never really ever made sense to me. While not a perfect copy of the plasma weaponry in Fallout 3 and New Vegas it's obviously intended to be the same weaponry with Bethesda's bullshittery.

Submachine Gun/Thompson M1928 SMG: Named after it's real life iconic counterpart. Despite my love for this gun I have no idea how any of these still work after around 350 years, about 200 of those without any maintenance whatsoever. Update: Although it has nothing to do with the name I couldn't help myself from changing the muzzle break model to the compensator model since the large muzzle break obviously meant for much higher caliber weapons looked very off on the sleek Thompson.

Throwables

Cryogenic Grenade and Mine/Institute Cryogenic Grenade and Mine: Apparently cryo tech as said in Vault 111 wasn't very developed hence the overseer's want to create portable cryogenic tech. This means the cryo mines and grenades weren't around pre-war, or if they were they were most certainly were highly experimental. If that's true the only explanation about why so many of these things are lying around is someone is making them and that certainly isn't your random wasteland joe. It also resembles Institute tech and the fact you specifically find several of them in the Institute seems telling.

Fragmentation Grenade MIRV/M-76 Fragmentation MIRV: In line with the other grenade changes and adding grenade in front of MIRV (Multiple Independently targeting Reentry Vehicle) is redundant.

Smart Fragmentation Grenade/M-76 Smart Fragmentation Grenade: As in line with other frag explosives but I really would like some suggestions for this.

Fragmentation Grenade and Mine/M-76 Fragmentation Grenade and Mine: I have taken inspiration from Immersive Weapon Names Redone and Updated mod to give these a more technical and less impersonal name.

Nuka Grenade and Nuke Mine/M-41 Nuclear Grenade and Mine: I like to think in their efforts to produce mobile nuclear armaments that General Atomics, previously to creating the M-42 "Fat Man", produced nuclear grenades and mines to be used in the field by infantry.

Plasma Grenade and Mine/REPCONN X-16 Plasma Grenade and Mine: An offshoot of the REPCONN plasma discoveries. If anyone has anything better I would love to hear it.

Pulse Grenade and Mine/Wattz EMP Grenade and Mine: Wattz seem the type to make electromagnetic pulse grenades and thus they have been named as such.

Institute EM Pulse Grenade/Institute EMP Grenade: Name changed for simplicity.

Melee

Revolutionary Sword/Spadroon: Finally figured out this damn thing's name thanks to Sals.

Weapons I Haven't Renamed Yet and Why

Laser Musket:
There doesn't seem to be a uniform way of making laser muskets and much like the Minutemen themselves I like the idea that their iconic weapon is as rag tag and varied as the faction itself.

Radium Rifle: While technically a Volkssturmgewehr the radium rifle has undergone moderate to heavy modification by the Church of Atom and it now has a very different identity in the Fallout universe. I am open to renaming it something more fitting so long as it fits the style of the Church of Atom as well.

The Deliverer: While it's a Walther PPK in vanilla there is only a single instance of this gun therefor it's a unique weapon and I saw little reason to change it.

Handmade Rifle: I have tried renaming this thing several times but it absolutely refuses to be renamed like all the other guns. If any knows how to actually rename this damn thing let me know.

Western Revolver: Much like the handmade rifle it refuses to be renamed.

P.S. Any suggestions (with actual compelling reasons and logic behind them) would be greatly welcome as well as if I have missed anything.
