    Hey,

So in the end I decided that the 156 preset was too few skill points per level and I'd like to change. Is it possible to swap versions mid playthrough? I don't mind not getting catch-up skill points after I switch versions, obviously, those are lost and that's fine.

    Thanks for your answer

You can't just change the values on the fly, they won't take effect. Here's how I would do it:

-1. Write down all the perks you have and your skills.
      0. Disable this mod and load the game. Make a new save and exit.
      1. Disable the Be Exceptional.esp
      2. Enable the Be Exceptional - Uninstall.esp
      3. Load your game.
      4. Wait about 5 - 10 seconds, and save the game.
      5. Exit the game, and disable the Be Exceptional - Uninstall.esp
      6. Enable Be Exceptional and the version of this mod with the new values.
      7. Load up the last save. Be Exceptional will give you all the skill points you have coming to you given the new values from this mod. For perk points, to find out how many perk points you should have, use the following formula:
(Current level - 1) - (SPECIAL points combined excluding points above max level - 28) - Number of perks or perk ranks gained with perk points still left after install. Add them with the console command: CGF "Game.AddPerkPoints" (Number to add).
      8. Now, I'd recommend saving again incase you make a mistake. Then, distribute your skill and perk points. You could put them into the same things you had them in before. You'll have some extras now to spend as you like. Or you could reroll your character, it's up to you.

Actually I decided to stick with the 156 preset. But it's good to know the process if I want to switch in the future. Thanks.

If you step down a difficulty level you will get the points you missed out on. If you step up a difficulty level you will not keep the extra points either. No worries there.

Thanks for the write up Keleigh3000. Yep, that's how you do it. TL;DR: Uninstall my mod, uninstall Be Exceptional following the instructions on that mod's page, reinstall Be Exceptional, reinstall my mod with the version you want to use.

Nice, thanks! I might actually make the switch in the end, simply because I realize there are actually a lot more skills that I need to invest into simply to be able to survive, since I'm using mods like Crafting Mastery, that have perk requirements (which become skill requirements with Be Exceptional) to be able to craft even some pretty basic stuff and also a lot of difficulty mods that make me having to invest into a lot more than I originally anticipated, so I guess I'm gonna go for the slightly easier preset than 156 in the end. So you're saying the skill points are retroactive when you switch versions, and you lose or win as many skill points as if you started the playthrough with the preset you currently have selected? That's awesome to be honest.

It seems to have worked, and I apparently didn't have to add any perks back to myself. Cheers to Keleigh for the detailed explanation and SilentNight for confirmation and letting me know that skill points would catch up! That is great!

I am torn between using Hot Diggity or Be Exceptional + New Vegas style rebalanced. I want my experience to be similar to New Vegas regarding progression and reaching a cap so my character doesn't become a DemiGod. Honestly, would you say Hot Diggity can offer this experience, or would it be better to stick to the Be Exceptional + Rebalanced mod?

i have the lvl 78 version of your mod and i gain 17 skill points every time i level up, does that sound right? i feel im getting way too much.. i even tried going to be exceptional in mcm and adjust it but it does nothing, it also defaults skill points to 5(minimum) per level and 0 from int, yet i still get 17 skill points, so what is the deal, did i install it right?

    Hello,

Maybe I'm not understanding this mod correctly, but is there any way to choose how many skill points we start with further than what our SPECIAL ranks give us? i.e. Even though my Charisma is 5, I still want to start with a Barter skill of 5. Or perhaps we can modify it via console commands like you can in the other games this is based on? In New Vegas, for example, you can use "player.modav lockpick 5" and it will change it to that value but still allow you to level up normally, making the game a little bit more proportional for my survival build list and therefore much more difficult at a lower level.

Let me know if this is something that is possible, or if I would have to dip into xEdit to achieve this goal. Thanks very much for your time and your awesome mod!

Would it be alright if I actually used this along side an Actual level Cap? (Level 50)

Yes but I wouldn't recommend capping to level 50. You'll be very underpowered late game if you do that. Use the level version of that mod closest to the level version you choose of my mod.

      Leaving this message for posterity!
I am using Be exceptional, Be exceptional Rebalanced,
      Humble perk: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/44541
New Character Creation - Husband Wife and FO3 Starting Stats - SPECIAL Points and Perks
      https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3942
      Level cap at 80: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13861.
Using this, i actually have a goal and a character progression. I need to level up smart and i wont be able to be OP and have everything. So i need to make a ''build''.
Thats how i balanced my character.
And to balance the world, i opted for a vanilla plus approach.
I rebalance the ennemies with :
NPCs health rebalance (no bullet sponge) : https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/40743
For example: Ghouls: level 9 180 hp up to level 52 330 hp. So there is a progression but its far more linear. and the monster level up with you.
I use Encounter Zone Recalculation (Continuous Level Scaling): https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/45674
Like that, every zones will always level up with you, and fights and gear will stay relevant to your level.
I believe deleveling the world is a mistake.
And to add a layer of fun and realism and difficulty:
      Direct hit: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/75098
      Bastion: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/75184

These 2 mod add locational damage, and the armor actually matter. If you don't have a chest armor...you will kill faster than if there is one etc. And for the power armor, you need to destroy the armor before you do damage.
It  makes it a lot more realist, and change how the difficulty is implemented rather than being big numbers. there is a logic to it.
I have not tested it it at high level, But at low level, this is the closest to a balanced and rpg feel i could find with all the mods available to us. Since the ennemies level up slower i am not worried. I just don't know how much damage we will do with all the skill at max. I will come back and update this post once i find out.

But for someone who hated the balancing in FO4 ( i cannot play vanilla. I REFUSE to play such a poorly balanced game. We deserve way better. Specially for having played during the golden age of gaming.)

I also removed the legendary system with this mod
      Legendary chance reduced:  https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/57015.

The idea of this balacing is to keep damage as vanilla as possible and as low as possible thanks to the perk mod.
And with the lowered life of ennemies they die normally/faster, no bullet sponge, and their resistance/strenght come with the armor/gear they have. A BoS should be harder to kill than a Raider...

From there do what you want, its your game! Iève added a lot of goodies. I am exited and happy to play this game now.

So THANK YOU for making this mod! :)
Hopefully it can at least help 1 person trying to rebalance/have an rpg experience! Cheers!

Man, thanks a lot for this. I was super excited with how much better Be Exceptional and some perk mods made the game, but it quickly became obvious that SP gain was great enough to sour the experience. This rebalance pretty much makes it feel perfect. Good work.

I don't know if you're still reading the comments here, but I think a good addition to this mod would be adding an option to seperate SPECIAL stat points from skill points. Right now when playing with this mod It's still far too easy to max out all of your stats really quickly. If special stat levelups were controlled by a seperate point system than perks this could be fixed.

True but I'm unsure if this is doable. Might want to grab a harder version in that case.

any chance for another int based system maybe int + 5 so that its slightly easier than recommended when maxed as i really like the idea of int based skill points but i dont like maxing my int just for that when im not gonna grab any of the perks from int.

For me personally if I feel if there's any INT bonus at all I will max INT so I feel like it's better to not have this at all.
