I'm trying to port some skyrim cubemaps to use in fallout 4, but they don't seem to work at all, the game doesn't recognise them. These are custom modded cubemaps, 1k-2k resolution, uncompressed with mipmaps. They work fine in skyrim, they appear fine in Fallout 4 bodyslide & outfit studio, but not in game.

    What am I doing wrong?

Skyrim and Fallout 4 uses various formats of DDS.
      In Fallout 4 it's:
      DDS type: ARGB8888 (A8R8G8B8)
      Resolution: 128x128 (only)
      Color depth: 32 bit

      In Skyrim LE\SE\AE:
      DDS type: DX1
      Resolution: 32х32 - 1024х1024
      Color depth: 32 bit

You need convert DX1 files from Skyrim to ARGB8888  files. You can use for it Paint.net or Photoshop with DDS plugin and select by save ARGB8888 format. Also, can use DDS converter tools by nVidia or Microsoft for it.

    Hi,
Thanks a lot for sharing this tool !
    -------------------------------------------------

I am making some attempts to create a custom cubemap for Fallout76 which would be an improved version of a vanilla cubemap.
Thus, my first work is to be able to do the exact opposite of what is doing this tool :
I mean I must first extract the 6 pics from the vanilla cubemap to be able to work on them
    .

I tried both with the last versions of Irfanview and xnView but none is offering to browse pages in the cubemap file ( neither can Nvidia .dds tool, with or without Photoshop, nor many other tools I tried such as "OpenDoc" or the .dds plugin for PaintNet... )
I thought it might come from FO76 and then I checked with Fallout4 cubemap files ...And it happened to be exactly the same issue :
No way to browse pages from any vanilla cubemap with any tool I tried.
In the description, though, it is mentionned if I can't save anything else except the first page, I should at least be able to view all the other pages, with the mentionned softwares above ?

( If I can browse and view, I can capture screenshots, work on these and save each of the 6 improved files ...And finally finalize using your tool )
However, right now, I can't even succeed in opening pages in any .dds cubemamp file from FO4 or FO76 ; The pages browser is just greyed out as a disabled option in any of these softwares while opening a vanilla .dds cubemap.
Weirdly, I can open correctly multi-pages FO4 cubemaps from various mods around, but not vanilla ones.
Some of these mods are obviously slightly modifying vanilla files, thus the author managed to open vanilla files first...
How ??? What am I doing wrong, please ?

    Edit :
    -- PROBLEM SOLVED --
I was using the official BA2 unpacker from Besthesda ( "Archive2.exe" provided with FO4 CreationKit ) and it was just screwing the cubemaps.
After hours of various trying, I found on goggle these few words : "Fixed cubemap extraction" and went to this mod page, where it belongs to :
BSA Browser ; the words were in the changelog? for a version uploaded a few days ago only. I tried to extract the vanilla cubemaps with it, and now they just import fine in photoshop ( all pages converted to layers ) and other viewers / editors :)

      Hi!
When created this tool, i'm used for preview cubemap XNView (flip the page with arrows up and down) and Paint.net
And more, not so long ago, in the Paint.net added function for saving cubemap textures. But my tools have one more big advantage, it's can work even with DDS-versions that don't exist yet and any exotic version DDS. But today, don't exist version DDS just... don't exist:)
Also, in DDS Tools plugin for Photoshop, too can editing and saving cubemap, but this is not accurate. I don't use Photoshop.
      Thanks for using my tool)
PS: I planned add function unpacking page. And in the next update I make it. I'll try make it quickly, if it somebody need)

I wish Nexus could be a little bit quicker checking files. As I'm still getting the message "The file is currently being uploaded to our file servers and it will be ready to be downloaded soon. " 6 HOURS after you uploaded it.....come on Nexus sort it out!

I have Endorsed this mod. Thank you
It's a dam shame Nexus still has not cleared this updated file for download 15hr's after you up loaded.
edit: just downloaded version 1.2 24hrs later. big thanks

Thanks for the detailed description. Still I don't understand what it does or rather what a 6-page cube map does. Could somebody explain that to me please?

Cubemaps create fake-reflections on objects ingame. Needed for modding only.

Thanks. I know what a cubemap is, I don't know what a 6-page one does, though.
Edit: Nvm, I read the wiki page linked by GrimTech.

Forgive me for this dumb question as I am not a modder. This mod looks like it can make a cubed item with six sides that can each have different textures? For example a six sided die has...well more or less dots than any other side...so this cube can for instance have grass on one side, dirt on another, water, street and so on and so that it can be rotated to whatever type of land you are trying to build in settlements? This in turn can make six land texture mods into one? I may be way off but just was wondering if this is what is being done here?

What's the benefit? Can I assume this is to reduce the number of files the game needs to load? If that's the case, how does the game know to download the single 6-page file rather than the original individual files? Or am I way off base here?
