such a perfect change to the weapon. better than a mod that changes it to 5.56 (in my opinion) since a lot of other gun mods already use that ammo type. this just makes it fit in its own niche better.
The combat rifle was originally intended as a .308 battle rifle. It was based on a weird cross between a Soviet PPSH and American BAR. The ammo in the magazine mesh looks like and is named .308.
It's really weird that it was changed to use .45, I think that was a last minute game balance decision.
Awesome mod total must have now. But could you possibly alter the entire mesh for the gun to make it slightly thinner, because vanilla seems a bit too fat and is more obvious with this mod so if the gun was made to be a bit less fat it would be 100% perfect! XD
I found a slight inconsistency with this, December's Child in Far Harbor is a combat rifle that specifically fires 5.56. I don't know anything about modding but if there is a easy way to apply the old model to the 5.56 receivers and magazines that would be awesome. If not I get it, its a small issue and otherwise this mod is awesome. It makes the combat rifle fit way better into what seems like its intended role as well as more internally consistent. Thanks for the mod.
Yeah, I was going to make that one exempt, but I'm not sure how it is put together in the CK. I can't find any references to it other than the Legendary modification. If I ever do figure it out I'll post a version that leaves that one with the original models.
Oh crap, so this will conflict with Extended Weapon Mods? Just asking to be safe
Partially. The stocks, barrels, and scopes should be fine, but the magazines from EWM won't fit properly. Load Extended Weapon mods first, then allow overwrite with mine if you want the thin magazines with an appropriately sized receiver, but EWM magazines that don't fit. Doing it the other way around MIGHT let you use the thinner magazines in the regular receiver. I'm not sure if EWM replaces the Combat Rifle receiver model or not.
If you'd like, you could also go with Satojo's 'Combat Carbine', which I linked in the description. It's the same basic idea, but adds the weapon as a completely separate option.
You've made it into a SMG not a carbine, A carbine is defined as a shorter version of an existing rifle, for example the M4 is a carbine of the M16, the AKS74u is a carbine of the AK74, the G36C is the carbine version of the G36K, and so on. They all still use the same caliber as their larger brethren.
Who cares? It shoots? So it ok. Everything just works.
Well, "carbine" from the beginnig means "lighter" version of gun. Mag became smaller, so gun became lighter. Shortening of barell is just another way of lightening of gunz. Agree? Im russian, so we can have different definition for one word, and I may be wrong.
ps. Thank you, jkruse05. What about Rangemaster, should we wait update soon?
pss. oh, i see, on "carbine" barrel is shorter, so i have no idea why you upset.
1 : a short-barreled lightweight firearm originally used by cavalry 2 : a light short-barreled repeating rifle that is used as a supplementary military arm or for hunting in dense brush
Dictionary(dot)com says;
noun 1: a light, gas-operated semiautomatic rifle. 2: (formerly) a short rifle used in the cavalry.
Wikipedia says;
A carbine (/?k??rbi?n/ or /?k??rba?n/),[1] from French carabine,[2] is a long gun firearm but with a shorter barrel than a rifle or musket.[3] Many carbines are shortened versions of full-length rifles, shooting the same ammunition, while others fire lower-powered ammunition, including types designed for pistols.
A rifle instructor on quora says this;
For years, carbines were simply shortened versions of rifles. Specifically, the barrel length was reduced and often the forearm of wood surrounding the stock was also shortened. Both military rifles and civilian rifles were manufactured as carbines as well. They usually were chambered the same cartridge. Examples include various models of Winchesters, Trap Door Springfields, British Enfields, Japanese Arisakas, etc.). However, notable and major exception was the WW 2 US M1 carbine which was a completely different firearm than the standard service rifle, the M1 Garand. This carbine was a totally different design that shot a much smaller, .30 caliber pistol cartridge.).
Carbine is commonly used to refer to a firearm that fires a pistol round from a two-handed, rifle-like configuration, in semi-auto i.e. a 'carbine conversion' for a handgun. Since one of the primary configurations for this weapon is semi-auto only, and we already have a weapon called, simply, the Submachine Gun, I went with a distinct, and still mostly accurate name.
Rangemaster update is still on the way. This mod was literally just done overnight, so not really hampering progress. I do have an update for AARP in the works, which will come out fairly soon, then it's on to the Rangemaster Remaster. End of the year at the latest, hopefully sometime in September or October.
Sure. I'll put it up sometime tonight or tomorrow. In all honesty the only reason I used an .esp was so December's Child would still look like it's meant for rifle rounds, since it's chambered in 5.56. And so the new stock wouldn't take over both of the old ones.

Thanks for the uninvited semantics game, though!

Btw, could you make a version that only change the meshes?
