    Solution if you can't get the quest to start even with this:
    open console and use the command provided
    "Startquest 3a457"
    then:
    "setstage 3a457 20"
    Preston should start the quest.
    NOTE: this does not work if you have the mod "Enough About the Settlements Already Preston" enabled. Disable that mod before using this.

    I've tried just about everything I could think of to try to make Taking Independence work with this mod and without it to no avail.
    I have 9 minutemen allied settlements, I even checked with commands. I tried using startquest command and resetquest command along with setstage. I tried using this mod, I tried disabling some minutemen related mods I have installed (Who's The General) but I haven't tried uninstalling some mods because I'm midgame (You and What Army 2, At a Minute's Notice - Recruitable Minutemen). Does anyone have a solution to make the quest work? Is my mods breaking it or is it just a Bethesda moment? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Yep. I have WATM and I am the General, but the console commands (startquest followed by setstage) did the job.

    I downloaded this mod, then loaded into the game. Quest didn't start. I copy pasted the stickied console commands into the console, and it STILL didn't start.

    Please help. I've been trying to start this quest for two days now. I've googled and done everything, but it refuses to work.

    I don't have the mod you mentioned in the sticky, either, but I can get you a load order if you need one. Nothing there should be affecting this quest.

      If this mod isn't fixing the issue for you, then there is a high chance that a mod conflict is what is responsible for your quest not starting.
      Make sure when you use this fix, that this mod is at the very bottom of your load order.  I know half the mods out there claim they need to be at the bottom.  Well, this one needs to be below all of them when you are using it.

      If you've already attempted everything listed, with this mod at the very bottom of your load order, then your save file is sufficiently borked that it is beyond the ability of this mod to help.

    does we are the quest breakers persist through profiles as ive stared a new game got all the way to molecular level and still no castle quest. was lvl 40 so im starting to think thats the problem

    will update if the vortex  profile was the cause

    Alright, Hello everyone. People that have this bug here is an answear for you. The quest does not start because of the mod called W.A.T so basically We are the minuteman. Delete that mod, go back into the game and type this into a console in you are a pc player
    startquest 3a457
    and then
    setstage 3a457 20
    Boom! Go up to Preston speak to him, he will speak to u about taking the castle and then as soon as u get the quest u can exit and reinstall the W.A.T back. ez

    This would save up some time starting a new non bugged game
    Instead i did now the quest and could continue

    I have about 12 settlements with the minutemen and still Preston refuses to give me the quest, i think my situation qualifies me to use the fix.
    Fingers crossed that it works!

    Hey love the work!
    But sadly this still isnt working for me, installed the mod, used the console command and nothing.
    i unistalled We Are the Minutemen to see if that would fix it, but sadly it hasnt.
    Love the effort put into the mod but if yu could help me in any other way would be much appreciated.

      Okay let's see what we can do.
      1) You uninstalled "We are the Minutemen"? Bad gamer, no Doritos!Seriously though, don't do that. Uninstalling a mod mid-gameplay can cause all kinds of problems with your save games. Especially when it is a mod as major as that one. Its kind of like blindy pulling pieces out of a Jenga tower.

      2) I would recommend going to the Fallout wiki, and finding the basic list of console codes. I would recommend trying commands such as "resetquest" and others to see if you can get a reaction out of the game. If the quest still is not starting even with this mod enabled, then either the quest is completely s***-housed, in which case there is nothing you or I can do. Or there is some problem with the scripts, quest progression, etc. Attempting to reset the quest might be able to fix it.

      3) If that doesn't work, then the problem you are having is probably beyond the capability of this mod to address. Without sitting down and and personally examining the "We are the Quest Breakers...I Mean, Minutemen" mod, I cannot really make an educated guess as to what the problem would be. Especially since I have no idea what other mods may or may not have a hand in it, and mods have sometimes have a way of interfering in things they have no obvious connection to.

    can you do a fix for the out of time quest and the When Freedom Calls quest? from what i understand is that thanks to the new CC content being added it messes up those 2 quest from working right. some people are saying specifically its the tunnel snakes Creation club plug in doing it.

      I can look into it, but a couple things.
      1) Its probably going to be a few days before I have time to do it, right now I'm not getting much time to play let alone mod.

      2) I can't be sure the fix I'm applying will work,I don't screw around with the Creation Club, so I have no real way of trying to create the problem on my end so that I can test whether or not my fix will actually resolve the problem. So while I can take a look into generating a fix, just be advised that I can't make any promises as to its effectiveness.
