Some users, including myself, have had issues with my radio mods where they will go irreversibly silent. Figuring out the 'silent radio' bug is more work than I am able to commit to these days. If a more experienced modder would like to pick up these mods (Squawkbox, Battlebox, and Chatterbox) I will happily provide the source files and documentation. I'm sure someone more familiar with creation kit scripting could work these mods better.
Thank you for this mod on Xbox, this is a must have in my load order now. At first I was hesitant on using it and then realized it fits really well with my NCR Veteran Ranger outfit. Having the antenna on the right of the the helmet as if it's picking up NCR comms or something (really immersive). Lol
Just as you stated the mod does go silent on you. The only way I found to fix this (xbox) is to disable and then enable it on a new save. Besides that really great mod.
Even despite the silent radio bug, this one is still kind of an essential for me. I like to build military-themed settlement builds, and radios are a big part of that. It's nice to have "active" radios (meaning the light inside is lit) that aren't playing Diamond City Radio, even if it means they aren't playing anything at all
Yeah I think this may be dead? Doesn't work for me either. Had the radio running for a while both on pip boy and on a constructed version. So far, just silence.
I just got back from a long trip irl. After some tinkering I figured out the silent radio bug; it’s a problem with how fallout manages its scripts, in these instances the radio randomizer script.
I’ll be working on an updated version with a newer and more stable script. If anyone has the silent radio bug, I’d be appreciative of any feedback you can give me.
Hi, great idea. Any chance you could make this replace the dead silence on the Brotherhood radio broadcast after you meet Danse and do the Arcjet mission?
That's a little out of my league- replacing songs and making radios is one thing, but I don't know enough to edit existing ones with complicated conditions structures
For some reason it's not working for me, any ideas? (I don't have any mods that alter the radio itself, maybe it's this alternate start mod. Also, I booted up an old save and it was still silent, so maybe the alternate start?)
So Bethesda implemented the radio system by creating a ghost quest, and in the creation kit you flag a box that I assume starts the quest on the game start. (Don't quote me on that I'm still learning how to use the creation kit) An alt start mod might mess that up. Which one are you using?
I've tested it with a new save and with several old saves and it seems to work, but I haven't tried an alt start mod yet.
Also, have you tried it at the top / bottom of your load order?
It's silent for me aswell. I have the station listed on my pipboy and I can craft the radio set, however there is no audio. I do use "Start Me Up" for an alternate start mod, so I have a sinking suspicion there's a hidden event that I just need to trigger.
I'm using the Alternate Life mod, though I might try disabling it and loading a older save file to see if that's the problem, which it might be. Also I can't move any of the ESP files for some reason, looking into that later. Also, I'm using the Pip-Pad, so that might be it.
FWI: Creation Club content, usually in the form of a .esl in your load order, has blocked me from changing my load order before. I had to manually delete the content off my computer. (I had the gunners paint job) You should still be able to reorder with LOOT, but to the best of my knowledge .esl files will block you from manually changing order in NMM
So I did some test starts with Start Me Up and Another Life, and I couldn't reproduce the bug. I tried installing it before / after starting the game, and at different slots in the load order. Therefore, the bug must with be another mod you're playing with.
I've had the silent radio bug before with CONELRAD 640-1240, sometimes after months of it working properly, and I could never figure out why. I imagine its a conflict with another radio mod.
I don't think I am using any form of radio mods, and I started a new game and uninstall/reinstall, but that didn't fix it, also uninstalled the Pip-pad and Another Life, but that didn't solve it, so I think it's some other mod or a problem with the mod itself, is the BoS supposed to be present for it?
I don't have pip-pad, but I can mess around with it to see if I can reproduce your bug.
My gut feeling is you have the classic silent radio bug, which has been around for awhile. Personally I've never fixed it, but on average I play with ~255 mods installed- so don't let that discourage you. checked with FO4edit, I dont have any conflicts, so whatever my issue is it's unrelated to mod conflict. has me thinking that it just didn't trigger since i used start me up
I also can't seem to get this, or Battlebox to work. However, Chatterbox works just fine. I've tried them together and individually, and Chatterbox always works.
Also having the same issue, Chatter box works 100%, but battle and squawk box will not play any sound. I have tested on a CLEAN new game, no mods and loaded before leaving vault 111. Even with just your 3 mods loaded only chatter box will play sounds. So due to it being a clean save before even leaving vault 111 we can rule out mod conflict as a reason for the audio not playing.
I might suggest adding a video that shows the mod working in game so people can actually hear what the mod adds.that way they can tell if it's something they want to add or not without having to download and install it.
Thank you! I play with Frost sometimes, and a creepy station is definitely warranted. I plan on adding a few more stations to Squawkbox and some more ambient-sounds radio stations like Chatterbox in the near future.

Did y'all install Squawkbox BEFORE or AFTER you started a new game?

I plan on adding more to this mod, and adding other ambience radio stations in the future-- I'm working towards an all-in-one esp. Stay tuned!
