rust is a good example of modding online games. if you play single player you can have your mods, but on a server your mods are disabled/ replaced by the server's setup. it's not hard it's a simple system
...is seriously nobody going to start the flame war of whether online thing sucks or not... I as a Fallout veteran who has played all (commercially accessible) Fallout games and has a custom made poster on his wall having a picture of Interplay Entertainment logo and text "I want to believe" written below it, I say it is heretical to make Fallout a multiplayer game... if it's CO-OP multiplayer than I' ll look through all my fingers and toes and let it slide, but if I see another Fortnite, I WILL.............. complain about it... I can already hear Pete Hines whisper to me: "hohohoho? you like that riot duster, eh? oh look at that NCR ranger armor, you sure like those, not to mention the Enclave uniform... come on, we know you want it, or how about a limited edition Chinese Fatigues with that soft furry ushanka? yes, they're nice... and because it's you, and we love you so dearly... 4.99$ *cough* per piece *cough* that mone- I mean cold is really getting to me."
Well, to each their own, but I'm with you on the dislike for multiplayer. You should watch AlChestbreach's video on the topic. Either the trailer was completely made in Fallout 4 engine just to rile people up, and the actual game will look nothing like it, or it's actually gonna be just like Fallout 4. Forget the possibility of a battle royale, there's no way you'll see a proper multiplayer, because that would require Bethesda to develop a new engine. This current engine is too incompatible to handle a multiplayer game. I mean, think about how they're still releasing "updates" for Fallout 4 monthly after 3 f*#@ing years. If they figure out how to do a full-fledged multiplayer game using their current engine, think of the shitstorm of updates and hot fixes that they'll keep releasing weekly to keep the game viable. And if they didn't develop a new engine for 4, you think they'll put the money into developing a new one for this game? I wouldn't even be surprised if they just kept patching up this current engine to make their new TES or Fallout title... I also feel that they will try to make the whole game revolve around microtransactions, based on what I've seen with the CC bullshit... that's a scary possibility. If there's a way to crack the game, so that I can access the single player features, I'll download the game. If not, well.. tough shit. I'll just ignore the fact that they've spent this time working on another money machine instead of a new TES title. At this point, that is what I want most.
"is seriously nobody going to start the flame war of whether online thing sucks or not" It's generally considered poor form to start flame wars around here. If you want to fight people, that's what Reddit, YouTube, and 4chan exist for.

P.S. forget modding this game as it is online
