I have allowed the domain to expire, as I need to watch my budget. Plus, my farm keeps me busy. If anyone would like to continue using this guide, I would be happy to revive it, as time permits. I'm currently going through a fresh install of FO4 and creating an updated load order for myself. I'd be glad to update the guide if people are still interested.
Hi audiodef. I wanted to let you know that I used BiRaitBec's build as the foundation, thoroughly read through Mortercotic's and Ape75's guides that he suggested, had a failed Vortex build that ran awesome but the saves wouldn't load, and after reading through your guide, I ended up with a working build to exceed my wildest expectations. I learned more in the last month than the previous 10 years modding (all the way back to Morrowind at least), have competently used tools I've only read about previously, and couldn't be happier that I persevered through some aggravating setbacks. After multiple modded playthroughs and almost 500 hours on FO4, I really needed something to make it as different as possible, and focused on changing as much of the core play and the world as I could while trying to keep things stable. So far it looks, sounds, and plays incredibly well for my modest rig, and feels very fresh for how familiar the main plot is. I suspect I'll run into some mod conflicts with the number of mods I'm running: ~50 VIS-related plug-ins in a merged patch, another ~50 Sim Settlement-related plug-ins in another merged patch, and another 254 plug-ins on top of that, ~15 of which are new accessible, explorable space mods like BTI I understand are inherently risky. Including BRB's Repacks and Merged Mods I must have 450+ plug-ins running. Thanks again for the time and effort you put figuring out what works best, making the guide to share that, and all of your suggestions and instruction around the mechanics behind modding, which made all of the difference in making my crazy FO4 modding ambitions a reality!
If you're curious what my monstrosity looks like or what I'm running it on I can try to figure out how to export the plug-ins load order from NMM and the specs for my PC.
Thanks, Marek357, for the incredibly nice feedback. This is exactly what I hope for when I share what I learn, and hearing things like this totally make my day.
Yes, indeed, I am curious to see your load order and your rig specs, if you ever get a chance.
I tried it once, but not extensively. I personally like building all my settlements, but sure, I'll keep Sim Settlements in mind as a future inclusion in this guide. :-)
I was wondering why you suggest turning off auto and quick saves. I get far too many random crashes to desk top to ever not have those. No Quick Save in Survival mode kept me from playing it until there was a mod to allow it.
I love the game but losing an hour plus of game play every so often would make me not want to play.
"Random crash to desktop" seems to be a feature of every Bethesda game I own.
The only way to make a proper save is by using consol save, its easy fast and always works unless if you at some point make a normal save on the consol save. Then the incorrect data will be transfered to the consol save. Have been using consol save over 2 years now and havent had 1 bloated save. How, well as said its easy, open console and type save me first word is the command to save second can be nearly what ever you want ( I prefer to use the current chars name). And in general do not have more than 5 saves. Oh and I only play survial, horizon survial.
I actually thought of using the description. I was just trying to use the mod uploader in a "proper" way, but now that you've mentioned it, I have seen the description used for similar help documents.
I used the Articles tab for the full online document, but I'll think about switching it to the description.
The simple text file for download is for people who want to download it and make their own notes in the actual document as they go along.
Audiodef your way makes sense. If you end up having multiple articles for different topics it will get cluttered to have everything in description. But if there will be just 1 then I do suggest also including it in description.
i think it's not fair for people to have a text in the file instead of just the description.
People will get bothered to actually download every time to see further updates or just a simple text.
You're surely not the only one that use this method, i personally dnt like it much. You can even not use the file after uploading a mod page, but that's your decision.
Thanks for the feedback on how to present this guide. Now that you mention it, since this is a lengthy guide, I'm going to leave it as an article. Maybe future versions will be broken up into smaller articles to make it more manageable and also to make it easier for people to find specific topics within the guide.
Thanks, man, you made me think about this in a better way. :-)
I actually like the text file route. This way I can download it and all the relevant mods, then work through adding them without needing internet access. Also allows me to use a previous versions as sometimes I stop midway, add some mods of my own creation then move on. This sometimes takes weeks or even months to work through. So with the text file, I don't have to worry about going back and changing anything if you updated and made any changes.
That's actually a very good point. I don't have a text file for the current version of this guide, but I'd be happy to look into bringing it back if there's continued interest in it.
any chance you would make a mod manager 2 guide ? im with you up to the point of getting game ready before installing mods after that its all about taste and preference of the user
I keep thinking about making MO2 guides, but writing and maintaining guides takes a lot of time. I had to choose a mod manager to focus on. Maybe someday. :)
Hey there! Thanks for this. Is always good to have suggestions and shared knowledge of modding in general and tips to do it in a more stable way. I will surely look at it to improve my own vision and correct some mistakes of my list. Cheers!!

In general, auto and quick saves aren't the best way to save, in any game, but in the case of survival it's necessary.
Thank you for bringing that to my attention. :-)
