Hello steamcanuck i found that all you need to do in order to make what you did work by deleting the quest fragment from the quest record itself via FO4Edit or else. See for yourself:
DLC03MQ01 "Far From Home" [QUST:03001B3F] > Delete reference: [2/0] DLC03:Fragments:Quests:QF_DLC03MQ01_01001B3F:Fragment_Stage_0002_Item_00 > Then remove "Stage 2" entry >> "Player has detected the radio message" >> "My Pip-Boy has received a radio broadcast from Valentine's Detective Agency. I should listen to it and see what it's saying."
You can also disable "Start Game Enabled" and "Start Enabled" flag to reduce load on save files on new game start. Since the quest will automatically start once you meet the other objectives such as grabbing the holotape or else. I did this for all DLCs and CC/NG content and it works in a simple ESP/ESL. You can use the data in here to your liking.
Thanks for correcting some of Bethesda's idiotic quest-ramrodding methods they employed in FO4.
I was stuck at Ellie's Far Harbor start quest dialog and couldn't complete the case files quests as a result. I now can walk into Nick's office without being verbally assaulted by Ellie.
I am looking for a mod that allows you to go to the Nakano Residence and Far Harbor, without the "Far From Home" quest starting. Is this something you can do?
Actually, you can start the DLC when ever you want, even without busting out Valentine first... You just need to go to Nakano's and it will trigger on it's own when you are near enough.
Like the no autostart mods very much, but this one is currently bugged (bug report sent).
Also, if it is possible, please consider making .esp version of the mod files rather than .esl. Fallout 4 internal mod manager is not exactly comfortable to use.
It's very likely I'll do something like that. Just about to upload the NQAS Vault-Tec, should be up within a half-hour. Should have Automatron up sometime today or tomorrow, barring unforseen events/difficulties.
suggestion - make all the dlc's do this, especially automatron. as in, don't place the robots in the world without the player listening to the distress call first.
I've already done the Nuka World DLC, see the updated description page of this mod for the link. Next up is Vault-Tec Calling. It's done, just needs to be packaged and uploaded. Automatron is also done, but same instance, need to package it before posting.
