8 March 2018 - First, some users have reported bugs with the .ba2 format, so I will be reuploading a new version in the Data Folder Format instead. Secondly, the comments section is not the place to bash/argue religion. If you say something really out of line, you could be banned from the Nexus for breaking the Forum and Commenting Guidelines. This mod was created to bring new roleplaying aspects to the game (Sole Survivor that still holds onto their faith, a Wastelander War Preacher, an anti-chem user, a religious zealot, a templar[DEUS VULT], etc).
9 March 2018 - Significant progress made in the scripting of the Bible. The Bible has been turned into a miscellaneous item that can be used for the MISC tab. If you are using an older version of the mod and update to the upcoming ALPHA0.3, when you activate the old version of the bible, you will given the new version of the bible. There is now a menu that allows you to choose which blessing you want to use. Examples include Healing, turning wine into water, etc.
14 March 2018 (ALPHA 0.3 RELEASE) - I've decided to create 2 versions of the mod. One that is Lore Friendly and includes only Quiet Reflection and Healing, and another version that offers buffs that may seem "unimmersive" to some (i.e. Transforming wine into purified water, turning frag grenades into blessed holy hand grenades). The Bible pages requested by some users have been created, however, they are not implemented in current public builds while I attach quest markers to them. Backstories have been created for these pages so they seamlessly blend into the fabric of the story.
FEATURES THREAD REPLY TO THIS STICKY POST TO SUGGEST NEW FEATURES FOR THE MOD
As the comments pile up, it will be harder for me to sift through the comments looking for suggestions. Having them all in one place will be easier for me.
Great mod! My only suggestion would be to possibly make the healing a once a day effect. Or similar to Skyrim powers, requiring the player to sleep between uses.
Can we soon like, get a version where you get this in All Faith's Chapel instead? Feels a bit immersive too (in my own opinion, i see yours), in a way that meant the chapel that allows you to pray to all of your religions has the start that it was the first (probably only) Christian chapel before things arrived.
ever think about turning this into a little mod series? basically just some fun item kits for RP characters. Bible and maybe some related gear (pastors garments are kinda fugly lol) another kit could be for a thief.. a lockpick kit that doesn't break..fun stuff like that lol
Perhaps have it use a retextured version of the Overdue Book, to give it a more pristine feel. Maybe even add in other "holy books", such as The Satanic bible, or the books (of which the names escape me), of other religions.
What would really be cool is having new dialoge options with the pastor at all faiths chapel to give a copy of the bible to him so that he can have an offical religion to teach there for those who would like. Every day he would have a new sermon to talk about (You could probably make this loop, 7 different sermons for each day of the week. Maybe, if you feel like you are up to the task, have a special sermon on Easter and Christmas, though it would require some huge scripts. I could help script it for the seven days, but I don't know about the special sermons.) If you do this, maybe add a donate button to raise money to hire the original voice actor to do the extra voice lines.
I could help with sermons. I am not officially a pastor, but God has taught me quite a bit in the last few years and I could also look into pulling from YouVersion. I believe that is mostly public domain, but regardless, I could help where necessary. Not a coder and know about script, I couldn't even get CK to work on my pc, but I could help with sermons.
As cool as this is, ngl, given that i remember there used to be some mods that added vampires and other weird horrifying things, for some reason i just wanna use the bible as a weapon, just, smack the s#*! out of those vampires with it and watch them catch on fire.
"I thought you were a man of god! What would JESUS do?!" "Flipping over tables and chasing bankers with a whip is on the list of things he would do. COME HERE VAMPIRE BOY!" "WHY DOES THE WORD OF GOD FEEL LIKE 'meet the pyro'?!"
If anyone makes a submod that turns the holy bible into a melee weapon, or a container for firearms, let us know immediately. I can see it now, the priest asking the lord what he should do, only for a bright light to shine down on the pedestal from the heavens, the priest opens it and finds a 1911 in it. "Thank you lord, i now know what to do, sometimes, threats to the flock must be CULLED"
I'm gonna do a Joshua Graham character, and this is PERFECT for it. (If somebody doesn't know who that is, they're a character from Fallout New Vegas.)
I don't personally believe in Christianity (The arguments aren't all that persuasive to me.) But I always like to see people add stuff like this.
The concept of religion fascinates me endlessly, and I believe it to be necessary to at least hear the stories that different beliefs proclaim to understand the effects that they've had on society as a whole.
1) Your bible only has a few of the books, you need to find the others via a quest which takes you to the various churches around the commonwealth (and perhaps a few random areas)
2) If you get a full bible and a pastors outfit you can craft a church / podium and once a week have the settlers gather for an hour (similar to ringing the bell) where they will sit down while the pastor stands at the podium
3) Maybe have a voice pastor? Perhaps the sermons will differ based on character actions (optionally) between a "lets all get along" style sermon vs as "GOD WILLS IT!!" zealot style approach for a raider playthrough.
4) Once churches are set up perhaps having new NPC's that you find wandering about (similar to NPC's Travel) which comment about how they are converts going to see "Pastor XYZ" at "ABC settlement", or perhaps are asking you help them find an intact bible (see #1 above), etc.
5) If you have a full bible and have built a church perhaps it attracts additional settlers to your settlement who have come to "hear the word". Perhaps this increases your settlement limit by + 5, or perhaps it is based on the size of the church you build? A smaller church might add + 3 settlers, but a large one might add + 10 (or more)??
I think there is a TON of potential for this type of mod, and best of all, no one has done such a thing. NOTE: i'm not really suggesting this as a "religious thing" but rather as an RP thing. Religions have always played a huge role in all cultures and there is really none represented in the Commonwealth currently other than the Children of Atom.
P.S.
6) Once your church is built perhaps the settlement attacks are modified to include more Children of Atom types screaming about heretics and non-believers who have to be purged for the glory of Atom.
