Add the Sound folder to your Fallout Data folder, after that simply open the text Fallout.ini found in "My Documents\My Games\Fallout 4" and add the information from the description.

You should notice no more music on the freedom radio, as well as no filler updates that simply state nothing is going on. You'll only receive alerts and artillery information. From there it's totally up to you on what media player you'd like to have playing in the background.

Oh, I thought it actually used the media player to play music through the in-game radio. That it didn't get silenced when the updates came up made me sad. :'(

Yeah I tried to make it as clear as possible for that, I didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea. If it's at all possible with spotify's API I could take a crack at it. I use to do a lot of coding when I was younger so it's a possibility if the functions are there.

Great mod, thank you! If I were to just place the mus folder in and not the voice, I assume it would replace the music with no sound but keep the filler voice? I will try it out, hope it works. Love listening to my Diamond Radio while crafting in The Castle but sick of hearing the Freedom Radio music, lol.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that doing the above worked perfectly!

As I was reading your short description, before even clicking the mod link, the thought occurred to me... what if the songs were replaced with a mild static and tiny bits of random radio chatter tossed in every minute or so? Would be simple enough to whip out in Audacity in a few minutes using the canned sounds from freebie sites.

I'll toss this into the Tracked section and see if I can assemble a few today for you. After all I didn't buy 10k audio tracks for this very purpose to leave them lying around for 6 years... oh wait... I did lol.

Interesting idea, I have access to a few audio site's libraries actually. I'll poke around and see what I can come up with. My only issue with something like that would be if it's not done right, it could start to get a little repetitive.

I have 4 done in .wav format still. Gonna rename them and convert to .xwm to test. They should be sparse and random enough to not get too repetitive.
Throw me a PM and I can send them to you.

EDIT: Okay, tested and working as intended. Almost inaudible. Just random bits of static with radio chatter tossed in.

Boy howdy, you can really tell how much of a positive influence iD has had on Bethesda. Alt tabbing works, crashing is down to once a day at most, the list of improvements goes on. Bethesda hasn't been able to fix any of their bugs since Morrowind, releasing them again and again with every new game. Then they buy the masters of the genre and magically their decade old issues start to vanish.

Agreed, the game actually feels like a proper FPS now. 3 and NV were too janky in mouse movement for my tastes, but I still dumped countless hours into them both. The not crashing to desktop almost every 30 minutes is pretty awesome too lol

Also, awesome to hear, I'll shoot you a PM and try it out.

Okay, I did 3 variants of the 4 static tracks. One is pretty silent as a wav and almost dead silent as an xwm. So I did Silent, 10Db and 20Db. I think 10 Db will be the preferred one. Will still be quiet, but you can hear it without having to crank the volume up while using headphones lol.

This sounds a good addition instead of the dead silence. More atmospheric without really interfering.

    Excellent !

    Essential mod, optimal.
I'm using the "True Freedom Radio - Less Time announcements" perfect cut with a timescale set to 6, and it is EXACTLY what i was looking for, Freedom Radio is now always on

    Thank you very much !

Liking the mod and endorsed! I was curious if you could do a version for Diamond City radio? So, you'r only hearing Travis' 'spaz' moments and his current event announcements.

I could give it a shot, but whatever music you have playing would overlap it.

That's fine. I like to have my spotify playlist playing in the background. Dont mind Travis occasionally talking over it. I do the same with Freedom radio.

    aw sweeet.
    Trying this out right now

I've always wanted to have freedom Radio running all the time, but that damn music and chit chat always annoyed me too much.
Hope this works as stated, because I'm sick of turning it on and off to hear minute man stuff and artillery confirmation.

Same here, like I stated in the description, this basically removes all the filler information. There is also an optional file that removes hourly updates as well. There are literally sound clips of the guy just going "It's 9PM.", I removed all of those short fillers and left the longer ones like "It's getting dark out there, stay safe".

All in all, I've been using my spotify list with this mod and it's been much more enjoyable, I get the updates and artillery information as well without dealing with music or the useless filler.

Has anyone reported the music not stopping after moving the sound folder to data and modifying the .ini file? I've been trying to figure out what I've done wrong but I can't find anything I've done at odds with the description.

Have you tried setting the ini file to read only? You could also try adding a comma after SOUND\ but for me there wasn't a need to do this. The last line in my ini file doesn't have a comma and all my mods work fine.
