UPDATED FOR HORIZON 1.8 


Turn that junk into something USEFUL! Fish with a fishing rod! Cook with a toaster! Make good use of those fire extinguishers! With this patch I plan on making all the junk items in Horizon an item YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE!!!


General Info:


The thing I love the most about Fallout 4 is exploration. Finding stuff! ...and a lot of that stuff is junk. Sure, junk items have their purpose but I want to give some junk items even MORE of a purpose! This patch will give you the option to turn some of your junk items into "consumables" that can be used from the aid menu of the pip boy. Any item that has been given a use that had the junk tag now gets the tool tag so it is not scrapped automatically. I want to keep updating this patch weekly until many junk items have a use besides scrap!
Items are crafted in a variety of places where it seems fitting. Most will require various magazines to craft. In general, the higher the quality of the item the less resources and the less experience you will need to modify that item. (Clean junk is easier to modify than rusty old junk).

You can find detailed instructions on where you can find the crafting menus for each item under the spoiler tag for the particular item.
All of the changes/additions in each of my updates are also available under the change log spoiler tag below.

V3.0b Changes:

-Small update again, just updating things to match some of Horizon changes to scrap. Some items that gave advanced circuitry now give basic circuitry.

V3.0a Changes:

-Small update, just moved the functional cauterizer into the chem lab. I had it in the tech lab by accident..

V2.1b Changes:
* Horizon has added a sanitized water crafting recipe so i have disabled this!
-I added in a new recipe in the Personal Hygiene section for crafting sanitized water. It takes 1 purified water and 2 dirty water, and gives you 2 sanitized water in return. This is so that if you have an over abundance of purified water you can use it in all my crafting recipes, and I don't have to bother duplicating any recipes to allow for purified water as an ingredient.

V2.1a Changes:

-I added a new item called the "Junk Catalog". It can be crafted in the Equipment section of the Tech Lab. I made it to clean up the Tech Lab a bit. Craft it to show all of my Junk Menus in the Tech Lab (Fishing Gear, Junk Modification, Weight Lifting and Games And Recreation). Scrap/Drop/Store the Junk Catalog to make all the menus disappear.
-The Junk Catalog does not hide the Toasted Food menu in the Cooking Workbench or the Personal Hygiene menu in the Chem Lab.

-The shovel can now has an extra crafting recipe and I removed the ability to construct a shovel from raw scrap.

Newly Added Items:

Boston Bugle: Create Readable Boston Bugle
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Can be read for a small experience boost.

Feather Duster: Create Refurbished Feather Duster
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Can be used to dust off your gear making yourself more presentable giving a boost to bartering for a short period of time.
-Has a chance to break on use.

V2.0 Changes:

Newly Added Items:

Telephone:  Create Functional Telephone
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Can be used to find new contacts in the wasteland giving new contracted recipes.
-You must have the contact information in your inventory for the new contracted recipes to appear.

There are 4 contacts:
Alcohol (chem lab): Get contracted recipes for crates of alcohol.
Weapons (Weapons Lab): Get contracted recipes for Missiles, Mini Nukes and Frag Grenades
Farmer (Cooking Workbench ): Get contracted recipes for crates of vegetables and fruit.
Drugs (chem lab): Get contracted recipes for Jet, Mentats and Psycho

-Some of these items can be crafted already, but these recipes do not require perks.
-Chances of finding a new contact are low, so be persistent!
-Contact information can be sold for caps if you find multiple recipes.
-There is a chance your telephone will break when used.

Typewriter: Create Restored Typewriter
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Use to write about your experiences in the wasteland.
-You can reflect on your experiences giving you experience points.
-There is a small chance you will create a book that will give you a perk point.
-The books can also be sold for caps.
-Chances of being inspired and writing a good book are low, so be persistent!
-There is a chance your typewriter will break on use

V1.9 Changes:

Newly Added Items:

Flip Lighter and Lantern: Create Functional Flip Lighter and Functional Lantern
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Used at night gives a bonus to perception.
-Has a limited number of uses. Uses remaining will be displayed in the items name.
-Lanterns can be used less than Flip Lighters but give a higher bonus to perception.

Makeshift battery: Create Restored Makeshift Battery
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Gives a bonus to melee damage when used if standing in water, swimming or if your outside and its raining.
-Has a chance to break with each use.

Blowtorch: Create Functional Blowtorch
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Used to weld steel to your outfit giving a temporary bonus to defense.
-Effects do not stack.
-Has a limited number of uses. Uses remaining will be displayed in the items name.

V1.8 Changes:

Newly Added Items:

Magnifying Glass: Create Cleaned Magnifying Glass
-Created in the Tech Lab under Junk Modification.
-Use outside when the sun is out to fry bugs to a crisp! (You sicko)
-Crispy bugs are edible and give a small amount of nourishment.
-The Cleaned Magnifying Glass has a small chance to break with each use. 


Coffee Pot:
Create Coffee Pot With Coffee
-Created in the cooking workbench under beverages.
-Crafted using Jet Coffee.
-Regular coffee pots require additional crafting ingredients, including abraxo cleaner.
-The Coffee Pot With Coffee will give you double the amount of uses for your Jet Coffee and gives better increases to stats since it keeps it nice and warm.
-Has 4 "charges" and will display the uses remaining in its name after each use.

V1.7 Changes:
-Moved the "Weight Lifting" menu to the Tech Lab.
-Created a new menu in Tech Lab called "Games and Recreation" used for my newly added items.

Newly Added Items:

Globe and Chessboard: Create Refurbished Globe and Chessboard with Chess Pieces
-Use to stimulate your mind and increase your intelligence for a period of time.
-Create in the "Games and Recreation" menu of the Tech Lab.
-The globe takes Abraxo Cleaner to refurbish.
-Has a chance to break on use.

Kickball and Basketball: Create Refurbished Kickball and Refurbished Basketball
-Crafted in the "Games and Recreation" menu of the Tech Lab.
-You can create two versions of these: 
The "shooting" version is for practicing shooting (increases perception). 
The "footwork" or "dribbling" version for practicing hand/footwork (increases agility).
-You can change your ball from each version for free in the crafting menu.
-Has a chance to break on use.

Bowling Ball and Pins: Create 5 pin bowling set (Or League 5 pin bowling set or Champion 5 pin bowling set)
-Crafted in the "Games and Recreation" menu of the Tech Lab.
-Used to increase your strength and endurance for a period of time.
-Has a chance to become worn/break on use.

V1.6 Changes:
-The cauterizer and the biometric scanner now heal at 20% and heal longer!

Newly Added Items:

Weights: Create a Reinforced Weight/Barbell/Dumbbell/Curlbar.
-Use for a strength bonus that deteriorates over time, similar to the hygiene charisma bonus.
-The more the item weighs, the greater the bonus to strength.
-Includes Weights, Barbells, Dumbbells, and Curlbar.
-Crafted in the chem lab under "Weight Lifting".
-Can be used multiple times.
-Has a chance to break with each use.

V1.5 Changes:
-The charisma bonus from hygiene items no longer stacks!
-The Biometric scanner now heals in a similar fashion as the cauterizer and detects life. Its an expensive item and I think it needs more of a use! It heals slower but for a much longer period of time.
-Moved Biometric scanner to the chem lab under "Healing".
-The toothbrush and toothpaste can now be used multiple times.
-Lowered some of the charisma bonuses.
-Other misc. changes....

Newly added items:

Hairbrush: Create a Re-Bristled Hairbrush.
-Use for a small charisma boost!
-Can be used multiple times.
-Craft in chem lab under "Personal Hygiene".

Sensor Module: Create a Functional Sensor Module.
-Takes place of the old Biometric Scanner. Can be used to detect living creatures.
-Craft in the tech lab under "Junk Modification".

Bonecutter: Create Bonecutter with Skull.
-Used to extract any gold or silver fillings that a skull might have inside!
-The Bonecutter has a chance to break with each use.
-You'll collect teeth for a small amount of bone with each use, but the rest of the skull disintegrates due to handling.
-Craft in the tech lab under "Junk Modification".

Pillow: Create Strapped Pillows.
-Use to prevent fall damage!
-Can only be used once.
-Craft in the tech lab under "Junk Modification".

Alarm Clock: Create a Functional Alarm Clock.
-Use the sound of the alarm to keep yourself going to provide a boost to AP!
-Craft in the tech lab under "Junk Modification".

Oven Mitt:
Create an Insulated Oven Mitt.
-Gives a boost to fire resistance.
-Has a chance to become worn and useless with each use.
-Craft in the tech lab under "Junk Modification".

Life Preserver: Create a Reinforced Life Preserver.
-Use to prevent yourself from drowning. (You can breathe underwater for a period of time)
-Has a chance to become ruined with each use.
-Craft in the tech lab under "Junk Modification".

V1.4 Changes:
-The umbrella now gives an increase to AP regeneration instead of an increase to speed.
-The Water Proof Extinguisher can now stop you from burning if used outside of water.
-Some misc. changes.


Newly added items:

-Cauterizer: Create a Functional Cauterizer.
-Use to regenerate HP when your health is below 15% AND you are not moving.
-Can be crafted in the Chem Lab under "Healing".
-Has a chance to break with each use.

-Biometric Scanner: Create a Modified Biometric Scanner.
-Modified to scan a wider radius, it is now useful for detecting living creatures.
-Has a slight chance to break with each use.
-Craftable in the Tech Lab under "Junk Modification".

Extinguisher and Toy Car: Create a Rocket Skates Extinguisher.
-That's right! Tie two toy cars on your feet and hang on as you blast across the wasteland! Could this actually work? Yes. Yes it could.
-Increased movement speed for a short period of time.
-Has 4 "charges". Will display the uses remaining each time you use it.
-If used will also stop you from burning.
-Craftable in the Tech Lab under "Junk Modification".


V1.3 Changes:

-Reworked some of the requirements. Undamaged junk items are easier to modify as they require less work!

Newly added item:

 -Toaster:Create Restored Toaster (with food of your choice). 
-Create a Restored Toaster in the Tech Lab under "Junk Modification".
-You can then craft a toaster that contains food of your choice inside. Toasters with food can be crafted in the Cooking Pot under "Toasted Meals".
-Use the toaster from within your aid menu to make your newly toasted meal!
-Postwar toasters require abraxo cleaner as an additional ingredient to craft a Restored Toaster! (abraxo cleaner now gets the tool tag to prevent it from being automatically scrapped)
-Toasted meals give double or triple the stats effects of regular meals! For instance, a food item that has its effects lasting 1 hour now last 3! ...but they will have half the nutritional value.
-There is a chance your toaster will break on use.
-There is a chance you'll overcook and burn your meal, giving you an almost useless burnt item to eat.


V1.2 Changes:
-The fire extinguisher can be used 4 times and will display the amount of uses remaining in its name.
-The Umbrella can now be used as many times as you want but there is a chance it will break each time you use it.

Hygiene Kits:

-Hygiene Kits can now be found in the chem lab under Personal Hygiene.
-Added a couple new hygiene items.
-The charisma bonus you recieve f
rom hygiene items will now deteriorate over time.
-Spelled Hygiene correctly. Ooohhh yyaaaa!

Menus:

-Made a menu in Tech Lab called "FIshing Gear"...all fishing items, including shovel, can be found there.
-All other junk items can be found in Tech Lab under "Junk Modification".

Newly added items:

-Umbrella: Create Reinforced Umbrella. Use for a short boost of speed while its raining! It wont last long in the harsh wasteland environment so use it wisely!

-Desk Fan: Create Person Fan. More lightweight and easier to handle. Use it to cool yourself down and restore AP when you overexert yourself! Can be used multiple times, but have a chance to break with each use.

-Fire Extinguisher: Create a Waterproof Fire Extinguisher. Use it underwater to propel yourself faster for a short period of time!


JUNK THAT CAN NOW BE MODIFIED:


Fishing Rod and Shovel:

Survivalist shovel:

How to use:
-
Can be used outdoors when its raining to collect worms for fishing! (The wasteland is a really dry place, and worms wont come anywhere near the surface unless its raining!)
-Using a Survivalist Shovel indoors OR when its not raining will simply give you the shovel back.
-A Survivalist shovel can be used as many times as you want until it breaks.
-Broken shovels become junk items.

How to craft:
-Crafted in the tech lab under "Fishing Gear".
-A Survivalist Shovel is crafted using a standard weapon shovel.
-You can craft your own Survival Shovels from scratch with enough survival experience!
-You can craft a reinforced shovel that will allow for more worms to be collected before it breaks. Even more survival experience is required.

Baited Fishing Rod:


How to use:
-Found in the aid tab of the pip-boy.
-Can be used like any other consumable while you are standing in water to collect Fish Meat!
-Using a baited fishing rod while not in water will simply give you your baited rod back.
-You can fish as much as you want until your rod breaks or your bait is lost.
-Broken rods become junk items.

How to craft:
-Crafted in the tech lab under "Fishing Gear".
-You can craft a Baited Fishing Rod using a Fishing Rod, worms and basic components.
-You can craft your own Fishing Rods from scratch with enough survival experience!
-You can craft Reinforced Fishing Rods that will allow for more fish to be collected before it breaks. Even more survival experience is required.
-There are two new recipes to craft in the basic food menu of the cooking pot: Grilled Fish and Fish Burger. Both give a resistance to rads and allow you to breathe underwater.

(Theres no fishing animations or anything...I'm not that skilled!)


Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrush and Hairbrush:

Personal Hygiene Kit:

How to use:
-Hygiene kits are a consumable found in the aid section of the pipboy and are useable like any other consumable.
-Using a hygiene kit gives the player a +3 charisma bonus for 8 hours. The charisma bonus will deteriorate over time.
-You can craft a Small Hygiene Kit using less resources, but gives a lower charisma bonus.
-You can craft toothbrush and toothpaste to combine them to give a small charisma bonus on use.
-You can craft a Re-Bristled Hairbrush that can give a small charisma bonus on use.

How to craft:
-Crafted in the Chem Lab under "Personal Hygiene".
-Can be crafted using Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Hairbrush (or Fancy Hairbrush) and sanitized water


Camera:

Opened Camera and Opened Prosnap Camera:

How to use:
-Cameras and Prosnap Cameras can be "opened" to get access to the film inside. (This is done through the crafting menu)
-Opened versions of the cameras are found in the aid tab of the pip-boy and are usable like any other consumable.
-Some film will contain pictures that are high in value and some are worthless, so its a gamble!
-Prosnap cameras have a much greater chance to get a high value collection of pictures.

How to craft:
-Crafted in the tech lab under "Junk Modification" using the standard Camera or Prosnap Camera.
-Requires some skill in Hack Attack to open up a camera.


Toaster (and Abraxo Cleaner):
