This isn't really needed anymore, as of FRIK 69. The FRIK flashlight is so much better, and actually extends into the darkness, making it brighter, so you can see.
Coming back to Fallout VR after so many years, I guess the upcoming TV series are to blame here. Sadly, this essential Mod is no longer working for me. Everything is as I left it some years ago. Perhaps there has been some changes to the structure, plugins.txt, etc?
So if you know how to make it work in 2024, please let us know.
This wasn't working for me.... And then suddenly it was. All I did differently was abandon FRIK and go with Idle hands instead. I was using gingasVR essential Mod list and it was working there, but I chose to abandon that modlist to make my own. I went rummaging through the download folder and noticed she is using this mod with the most updated file. In her Load Order file and Plugins.txt file it says *Pip Boy VR light - fix. I can't find a patch/fix file anywhere in her mod downloads so I'm not sure why it is like this in the load order, I'm assuming it's a merged file somewhere. That's a lot of non sense though, just what I discovered when doing some research on a modlist that has this working. I have barely started modding but here is my current load order and the light works. PM me if you need more info. I'm using Quest 3 with Oculus touch controllers.
I installed a bunch of new mods and this broke. I ended up reinstalling it and putting it at the very bottom of my load order and it is now working again.
I was wearing power armor for awhile and the mod suddenly broke as well. Reinstalling it fixed it, but it happened again. I put it at bottom of mod load order and hopefully that will fix it.
edit: It did not fix it. Something to do with using power armor is making the light get overwritten after exiting power armor. Reinstalling fixes it though.
I think this happened to me as well. I tried to turn on the light in power armor, and it didn't come on....then the next time I tried to use it out of the suit, it just made a ring of light around my feet and made the pipboy glow slightly.
Great Mod. For those looking to reverse the grip, I downloaded GIMP (free) and flipped the GOBO vertically then replaced the original GOBO. This caused another issue that you'll notice right away. When you hold the controller so the flashlight faces forward it reverses your movement. Some people may be OK with that but it messed with my brain. I went into fallout4custom.ini and added the following:
[VRinput] bUseWandDirectionalMovement=0
Now you can move your controller all around and continue moving in the direction you're looking. You will need to get used to running strafing if you tend to look around lol Was walking across a narrow bridge and looked to my right to enjoy the scenery and took a 4 story shortcut to the bottom floor.
Ultimate step would be to find a way to press a button and flip the flashlight AND movement so you can have the best of both worlds.
Is it possible to upload a version that is flipped 180 from the flashlught style so it could be like holding the flashlight with a reverse grip? Sort of like the flashlight and pistol stance. I would also use it to hold the flashlight above my left shoulder.
Did you ever get an answer to this? Clearing ghouls in dark warehouses with a pistol is cool but without that reverse grip flashlight it's a bit unnatural. Cool, but not perfect when it could be, probably easily for someone who knows what they're doing.
I'm currently trying to add some more soft lighting in a wider circle around the narrow beam, if anyone is better at paint.net than I am, it would be a cool file to upload
can the radius be configured to be far? the current light only lights up few feet in front of me, would be cool if the light can only stop when it hits a surface and a surface that is far
Hey, Great mod. Got two questions: 1. I set the radius to 5000, is there any limit? Because I it still doesn't seem enough for me. The nights are really dark. 2. Because I set it to 5000 it's a bit too bright inside. I came to thinking that it would be amazing if the 'flashlight' would have two modes adjustable. The short mode and the long mode like in real flashlights. Mode would be changing by clicking a button. That would solve my problems and would add a bit to immersion. Would that be possible?
Someone else may be able to say for sure but I don't think it is working anymore. There are some alternatives that do work. pipboy light change to headlamp works but there aren't any shadows and the light is pretty intense. Adding PipBoyShadows mod to that above mod I think fixes it but I haven't tested it yet. I'm working on getting Fallout 4 VR set up for a playthrough after I've finished with Skyrim VR. The light is pretty much the final thing.
thanks for the reply, just tested this out and it does work, follows where you are looking, however the light is pretty wide, would be nice if it was narrower but it is for sure an improvement over the default light
