Uploaded Version 1.4 which adds a FOMOD installer and the new optional File: Vertibird Explosive Miniguns that adds Explosive bullets to their miniguns like the legendary items have.
Version 1.5 fixes a missing keyword for Explosive Vertibird Minigun option and adds a custom effect that decreases the radius of the explosion and makes the projectile impact look better.
Wanted to thank you so much for this mod - of all the FO4 mods I've tried so far, this one I feel has most subtly improved the game from vanilla. Even if the player doesn't ally with BOS, their presence in the skies over hostiles should have and now is, far more dramatic. And if they are coming for you? Better be careful just like you would a real fire support vehicle.
Default is 15 but the damage default on the Minigun itself is 25. So I settled for lowering the Minigun to 15. It's still way stronger than regular due to how Explosive works so IDK, I may lower it more.
Default minigun is 8 damage, right? 15 base + 15 explosive sounds pretty good. 25 base damage + 15 explosive sounds OP. I wouldn't lower the base minigun damage lower than 10 though, since anything lower would effectively be a damage nerf (numbers wise, at least). It feels really fun right now though. Definitely better than the worthless damage the Vertibird minigun does unmodded.
That is interesting indeed. Essentially, I'd like to see a REASON to use a Vertibird as a viable assault option (not unlike Artillery) even when a player owns an Explosive Minigun legendary weapon. As such, I think this mod should always have the player minigun on Vertibirds be stronger than an Explosive Minigun. As an aside, do NPCs get Explosive on their Vertibird minigun?
Durable Vertibird 1.61 uninstalled, no access to savegame
Have the MOD installed, unfortunately, there were some problems in the game (no serious). So uninstalled MOD, then the old scores could not be loaded. The menu was then only to select "New Game" what a crap.

Afternoon all. I really dig this mod and have used it before. Tried re-installing it but now it didnt work for some reason. Im also running Endless War which might have something to do with it not working. If anybody has any ideas about this then that would be great.
While I was adding more Vertibirds to to make them scale in level up to 110 I noticed that the Leveled NPC record for them has the flag "Calculate from all levels <= player's level" set, which means the it picks one random version that is at or below the players level. So you will still see level 20 Vertibirds when you are lvl 100+
If you use the Deadly version with the no-leveled plugin it removes the earlier spawns, solving this issue. However, you'll need to make sure you don't have another mod lower in load order reverting (re-adding) them back.
For anyone using Robco Patcher, if you want to just increase HP you can do it pretty easily with one INI in npc folder:

Mod, as it is now, will produce a bunch of xEdit errors and prevent bashed patch creation. Steps to fix are a simple resave in CK and ITM cleanup. Fixed versions are on my Fixes page.
I always wondered how an organisation like the BOS who were hellbent on hoarding technology would have gunships that were as squishy as a helium balloon. This is supposed to the be the new US Military, they should have proper gunships and proper pilots. This mod is awesome. Just saw two Vertibirds shooting up Big John's Salvage. One providing air cover and the other landing their soldiers with my girl offering Sniper assistance. None of them got shot down, even after taking a direct hit from a missile launcher. Now, this is a military gunship. Well done, thanks much.
Good day fellow human. The BOS got these off the Enclave who are the remnants of the US Government. The BOS isn't the new US Army. Not even close to being. They are a faction which hordes tech and keeps it out of the average Joe's hands. They care little for the average Joe. As for the stats of the Vertibird. Well that's just another in a long line of silly decisions by Bethesda.
You also forget that the BOS is also a former branch of the US government. Both Enclave and BOS were branches of the military that had very similar setups. The Enclave shelters was designed to house the best and brightest during the event of the big kaboom, as well as certain shelters housing officials and families of said officials of the us government from DC. BOS had similar setups on the west, with more of a focus on military, but also with shelters for government officials and families from the important locations on the west, namely around washington, both of which were presumably relocated after the war vs canada.
Furthermore, by the time that the Enclave entered the game, they had already cast aside being american, and instead focused more on being 'the pure race', while using the FEV experiments done in mariposa as a means to purify the wasteland and start with a clean slate. The 'bring back america' thing was strictly propaganda found in the east, which is proven after you speak with John Eden, when you find that they had literally no intention of ever bringing back america. This is only further pointed out as you can find codexes in the BOS libraries stating that their branch was originally supposed to rejoin with the enclaves branch to bring back the us government, with the enclave taking power, and the bos being that power. (this is also why the brotherhood was so insistent on keeping the bloodline pure) The problem is, all of the officials died (i forget why. iirc it was either vault-tec experimentation, or the vault got bunkerbusted into oblivion), so a reestablishment of the government was impossible. The order was never sent. And people forgot the original orders.
@millyrainbow - BoS weren't truly a US gov branch. They'd been soldiers, but formed after the Mariposa Rebellion. Days before the nukes fell they'd muntinied. They interrogated & killed scientists at a secret military base they'd actually been ordered to guard, then abandoned it.
Anyone using this mod fine? I honestly can't remember which version I downloaded but for some reason every vertibird I see now dies to ground fire without fail. It could be a fault of mod added weapons but I doubt they deal that much dmg every time.
I use the deadly variant with no levelled vertibirds, and I can say that now BOS really kicks ass and chews bubble gum.
Instead of exploding after 5 seconds and falling from the skies like confetti, vertibirds now actually can strafe enemies on the ground and make air assaults. If supermutants, gunners or raiders do not have Fat Mans, rocket launchers or LOTS of firepower, BOS vertibirds now tear them a new one every goddamn time. NOW these things are scary.
One more reason not to f*** with the BOS. You hear me, Preston? What? Another settlement needs our help? Of course, show it on my map.
P.S. Too bad AI soldiers in PA cannot utilise their fall damage immunity and disembark only after landing. Disregard that. PA troops CAN drop jump from vertibirds!
P.P.S. In addition, I recommend installing the mods that increase mounted minigun damage and accuracy.
this mod is amazing i saw 6 vertibird so far, only 1 out of 6 got destroyed and that's because there were a lot of super mutants with heavy guns. the others always successfully landed their teams., compared to vanilla vertibird that is squishy, that always dies to pipe gun
compared to the vanilla vertibird that is as squishy as a balloon, these vertibird are like actual air support piloted by professional pilot AND has the durability like an actualy aircraft. nice.
This is probably old but.. The only way that you CAN'T have Vertibirds is if you side with the Institute. And you can't craft it in settlement mode, you have to use a smoke grenade
